Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun fills us in on former Rangers captain Mark Messier winning a case against the Vancouver Canucks for $6 million in deferred money from his brief stint with the team. Messier left New York in the summer of 1997 to sign a five-year contract with Vancouver for $6 million a season. Messier exercised a clause in his contract after the third season and was bought out for $2 million."Messier signed a five-year, free-agent contract with the Canucks in 1997 for $6 million a season. The dispute between Messier and the team is believed to centre on deferred money the hockey player felt was owed to him. It has been reported that Messier had a clause in his contract that would compensate him if the value of the Canuck franchise increased over the life of his contract, which expired in 2002."-----Meanwhile, newest Ranger Rick Nash shows us his lighter side, taking out a full-page ad in The Columbus-Dispatch, thanking Blue Jacket fans for his time there. h/t to @ny...
