After seeing no NHL game action in the less than 24 hours he was recalled by the Rangers, Brandon Mashinter returned to the Whale Tuesday night with a thud. Mashinter was held scoreless including being stopped on a shootout attempt during the Whale's 4-3 shootout loss to Albany. Mashinter was also a -2 and only register one shot on goal. He now has 3g, 4a and is a -2 in nine games since joining the Whale. ...not making excuses for the guy, but I can't imagine that was an easy 24-hours between all the travel as well as the disappointment of being recalled and not even getting to stay for the game. ...i'm expecting a much better performance from Mashinter Friday night. Dan Girardi’s absence heightens need for defensive depth

Girardi’s injury really heightens the depth hole. With Dan Girardi out for his second straight game, the Rangers deployed the bottom pairing of Steve Eminger and Matt Gilroy against the Islanders. Against the Devils, it was Gilroy paired with Stu Bickel. Suffice it to say, that bottom pairing not only isn’t scaring people, it’s a legitimate concern and liability on the ice...

MSG reporter John Giannone took a puck off the nose and kept right on working

John Giannone, consummate professional. With time winding down in the second period of Thursday’s New York Rangers-New York Islanders game, Rangers defenseman Marc Staal attempted to clear the puck out of his own end, but his wayward shot ended up going right between the team’s benches and into the waiting nose of MSG reporter John Giannone. Despite the steady gush of blood streaming...

Rangers captain Callahan returns; Boyle benched

Rangers captain Ryan Callahan returned to the New York lineup a tad earlier than expected and at the expense of veteran forward Brian Boyle. Callahan was expected to be sidelined 10 to 14 days after he dislocated his shoulder in New York's victory over Philadelphia on Jan. 29. Instead, he was in the lineup Thursday against the New York Islanders - nine days after he got hurt...

ATF: WHL prospects continue scoring ways

While most of the focus in the WHL is on Michael St. Croix, Shane McColgan is also scoring at a point per game pace, and doing so on a Saskatoon team that is nowhere near as loaded as St. Croix’s Edmonton squad. Last night was no different, as McColgan added an assist in Saskatoon’s 5-4 win. As for St. Croix, he added a goal in Edmonton’s 4-3 overtime win. Both players are...

HENRIK LUNDQVIST EXPANDS HIS “CROWN CLOTHING” COLLECTION

Henrik Lundqvist shows off his goaltending talents comes game time, but off-the-ice, he’s often singled out for his sartorial skills. The New York Ranger has received high praise for his sense of style, landing on countless best-dressed lists. It’s only fitting that the hockey star would try his hand at clothing design. Lundqvist first debuted his “Crown Collection” of apparel...

I Guess Kreider's Ankle is Ok

One of the few bright spots last night was Chris Kreider's absolute snipe in the third period... ...i guess the ankle is ok. You can see him entering the zone with a head of steam and Richards lead him perfectly down the wing. And then obviously he unleashes just a nasty shot. After seeing a play like that it seems unfathomable that he only had five goals in 33 games...

No Update on Girardi; Callahan Cleared for Contact

Blueshirts United reports that after not playing Wednesday night, Dan Girardi did not participate in today's optional practice. John Tortorella would only say that he's "not sure" of Girardi's status for tomorrow night's game against the Islanders. ...Girardi had only missed two games the last five seasons before last night, so it really must be...

Hockey announcer drilled with puck at ice level (VIDEO)

John Giannone of the MSG Network got up close and personal with frozen rubber Thursday night as he stood at his post between the Islanders and Rangers benches.  At the tail end of the second period, Marc Staal of the Rangers flipped the puck up into the section where Giannone stands and it caught him in the nose. But as you’ll see, Giannone falls under the “gamer” category...

What Is This Team's Identity?

Larry Brooks at the New York Post feels that the Rangers are having an identity crisis right now... "Everyone understood this team would be more top-heavy following an offseason in which Rick Nash came but Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Ruslan Fedotenko and Brandon Prust departed. Everyone could see the added skill level. But the Rangers, a guts-’n-glory team if there...

MSG reporter hit in face with puck during Rangers-Islanders game (Video)

It happened in the final seconds of the second period as Rangers defenseman Marc Staal tried to send the puck down the ice, but accidentally flipped he puck towards Giannone's spot at ice level between the team...

3-for-35?!?!?!?!?!

Yes Rangers fans, after last night's 0-for-5 on the power play, the Blueshirts are 3-for-35 with the extra man on the season!!!!! That's a success rate of 8.6%, good for last place in the NHL. Of those three goals, Ryan Callahan has two of them and Taylor Pyatt has one. That's right, Brad Richards, Rick Nash and Marian Gaborik have combined for ZERO power play...

Rangers Trying To Find Their Identity

from Larry Brooks of the NY Post, Everyone understood this team would be more top-heavy following an offseason in which Rick Nash came but Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Ruslan Fedotenko and Brandon Prust departed. Everyone could see the added skill level. But the Rangers, a guts-’n-glory team if there ever were one, seem to be grappling for an identity in this new season...

Musings: The sub .500 edition

Googled ‘desperate for offense’. I kid you not, this was the 3rd picture found. Hello everybody!  (*Dr Nick voice*). It’s a musings day but in Ranger-land there’s not much to be happy about so let’s just get straight into it. It’s all business folks. I read yesterday that we give the ‘star’ players a pass on this site? Not so. If you look back through the musings...
