Amidst all the hubbub over the Jeff Halpern signing and Rick Nash trade rumors, the Rangers made another depth move this morning, adding 24-year-old defenseman Logan Pyett to the mix. CapGeek broke the news of the one-year, two-way contract and lists Pyett’s NHL cap hit as $600k and AHL salary as $100k.  Pyett was originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the seventh round of the 2006 draft and has spent the last four seasons with Detroit’s AHL team, the Grand Rapids Griffins. It’s unlikely that Pyett ever makes it to the NHL.  He’s undersized at 5-foot-10, 200 lbs and though he’s a right-handed shot, he’s just an average depth player for the CT Whale.  Pyett does have some offensive game, so perhaps he’ll help on the power play. As of now it appears the Whale’s defense will consist of some combination of Pyett, Stu Bickel, Dylan McIlrath, Tim Erixon, Wade Redden, Blake Parlett and Mike Vernace.
