The New York Islanders may have a goaltending controversy on their hands even before their regular season begins.The club has named Al Montoya the starting netminder for its season opener Saturday night against the Florida Panthers.Montoya was given the bulk of the starts down the stretch last season, but finds himself in a three-way battle for playing time in 2011-12 with Rick DiPietro and Evgeni Nabokov.DiPietro is in the midst of a 15-year contract with the club, while Nabokov was acquired last season but refused to play for the team.It isn't known how long the Islanders will go with three netminders.Montoya, a former first-round pick, enjoyed a career revival last season. The 26-year-old went 9-5-0 with a 2.39 goals-against average and one shutout.
