Canucks @ Oilers, 9:00

Game of the night:
St. Louis Blues @ Chicago Blackhawks
12:30 ET… TV: NBC

Records:
Overall: Blues (36-15-7) … Blackhawks (31-21-7)
Away/Home: Blues (10-12-3) … Blackhawks (19-6-4)
Last 10: Blues (7-2-1) … Blackhawks (2-7-1)
Season Series: Tied 1-1

Starting goaltenders:
STL- Brian Elliott (2011-12 stats: 20-5-2, 1.55 GAA)
CHI- Corey Crawford (2011-12 stats: 20-14-5, 2.92 GAA)

Injury report:
STL- Jaroslav Halak (flu, out), Carlo Colaiacovo (wrist, questionable), Matt D’Agostini (head, out), Alexander Steen (concussion, out)
CHI- Niklas Hjalmarsson (concussion, out), Steve Montador (upper body, out), Dan Carcillo (knee, out)

Three things to watch:
1. Have the ‘Hawks turned it around?
Chicago’s nine-game losing streak is a thing of the past, and the Blackhawks have looked good in the two games since (both victories). Led by Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp the ‘Hawks out-scored the Rangers and Jackets 10-3; they regained their mojo in the process. Look for them to get a big boost today after their marathon road trip.
2. Brian Elliott starting again
Due to Jaroslav Halak’s flu-like symptoms, the Blues will be forced to start Brian Elliott for the second straight day. The All-Star made 13 saves in a shutout against Minnesota yesterday, improving his record to 20-5-2. Elliott has started just once this season on back-to-back days; the first time was a win in Philadelphia in October.
3. Special teams battle
It will be interesting to see how the special teams shake out today. The power play and penalty kill units for both Chicago and St. Louis have struggled throughout the year. However, the Blues’ power play has scored seven times in the last five games. Meanwhile, Chicago’s penalty kill has shown signs of improvement.

Final thought: This game obviously has big implications in the Western Conference playoff race, especially with Chicago trying to vault back to home-ice positioning. The Blues are playing really well right now, but it’s tough to pick against the ‘Hawks in this one. I think they’ll win their third in a row in a tight contest. Prediction: Blackhawks 3, Blues 2

The rest of today’s predictions:
Penguins over Sabres
Red Wings over Sharks
Bruins over Wild
Devils over Canadiens
Ducks over Panthers
Predators over Stars
Rangers over Blue Jackets
Avalanche over Jets
Canucks over Oilers
