Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall crushed Colorado Avalanche left winger Jamie McGinn with a monster body check in the final seconds of regulation during Friday night's Western Conference NHL battle in Denver. McGinn was following the puck as it came around the boards into the neutral zone and didn't see Kronwall coming at him. Amazingly, McGinn was not hurt and played in overtime, with the Red Wings winning the game 3-2. Video via NHL.com. Visit us at holdoutsports.com and follow us on Twitter @HoldoutSports.

Red Wings recall Sheahan, who had an infamous DUI

The Detroit Red Wings have recalled Riley Sheahan from their American Hockey League affiliate. The move was made Saturday, a day before Detroit hosts the St. Louis Blues. Detroit drafted Sheahan in the first round of the 2010 NHL draft and he played in one game for the Red Wings last year. He had 35 points in 67 games this season for the Grand Rapids Griffins. Sheahan pleaded...

Red Wings-Coyotes wrap-up and Wings-Avs set-up: brain fart loss yields urgency vs. Avs

The Detroit Red Wings caught a very late flight to Colorado to prepare for tonight's game against the Avalanche (9 PM EDT, FSD/Altitude/97.1 FM) having placed themselves in a particularly desperate situation thanks to their awful showing in a 4-2 loss to Phoenix on Thursday evening. The Wings now sit in 7th place in the Western Conference standings with 41 points, but the 18...

Leafs to face Red Wings in 2014 Winter Classic, Jerseys Unveiled

After the 2012-13 NHL lockout shortened the season and cancelled the Leafs vs. Red Wings Winter Classic, today, the NHL announced that the two teams will meet in the 2014 Winter Classic. They also unveiled the jersey's which, like any other Winter Classic Jerseys in the past, look pretty sick. The Leafs and Red Wings will face each other four times next year as division rivals...

VIDEO: Datsyuk’s OT winner gives the Wings two crucial points against the Avalanche

Pavel Datsyuk had the first and last laugh Friday night as the Detroit Red Wings picked up two crucial points in a 3-2 overtime win against the Avalanche. Datsyuk opened up the scoring in the first period when he picked up his 12th goal of the season on the power play after a nice feed from Johan Franzen. But it was his second goal that turned out to be the game winner in overtime...

22 minutes of Pavel Datsyuk dangles (VIDEO)

Name another athlete who can provide 22 minutes of “wow.”  I’ll hang up and listen.

Red Wings Lose Their Edge, 4-2 to Coyotes

The Red Wings put up a pathetic 2nd and 3rd period effort and pay dearly, losing 4-2 to the Coyotes. The Red Wings came out and dominated the entire first period. The pressure in the offensive zone was great and kept providing scoring chances for all of the forward lines. They opened the [...]

Red Wings-Avalanche Preview

The Detroit Red Wings' quest for a 22nd straight playoff berth appears to be going down to the wire. The visiting Red Wings know they probably can't afford to lose to the NHL's worst team Friday night when they try to complete their first season sweep of the Colorado Avalanche in five years. Detroit (18-14-5) is in seventh place in the crowded Western Conference. Eighth...

Red Wings-Avalanche game-day updates: no news on Wings’ scratches due to no morning skate

The Detroit Red Wings basically have to win tonight's game against the Colorado Avalanche (9 PM EDT, FSD/Altitude/97.1 FM) thanks to their awful performance in the team's 4-2 loss to Phoenix last night, and we already know that the Wings will swap out three defensemen for Ian White, Kyle Quincey and Danny DeKeyser. The Avs' morning skate revealed little in the way of...

The Wings’ Saturday evening email = Winter Classic announcement/presser at 10:30 AM Sunday

I've already received some Tweets and will certainly receive some emails regarding the mysterious email the Red Wings sent their fans on Saturday night, stating that they will make an "announcement" at 10:30 AM EDT today (and that the announcement will be streamed on DetroitRedWings.com and re-shown in snippets during today's matinee between the Wings and Blues...

As “The Mule” Goes So Do The Wings?

from Ansar Khan of Mlive, “I thought Mule was fantastic in the middle, dominated the faceoff circle, really played well, went head-to-head against (Matt) Duchene all night long and was very good,'' Babcock said. Babcock paired Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg together in an effort to energize the team following Thursday's 4-2 loss at Phoenix. He had Franzen...

Red Wings-Avalanche quick take: leaders of the pack help Wings rope-a-dope high-altitude win

It's all about regulation or overtime wins for the Red Wings, and in what may or may not have been a make-or-break-the-season game--with Sunday's opponent, the Blues, pulling ahead of the Wings in the Western Conference standings... The Detroit Red Wings dominated the first period against the Colorado Avalanche, nearly gave the game away in the second and third periods...

Red Wings-Blues quick take: a joke all the way around

I would yell and scream at the Red Wings for engaging in awfully stupid lateral passing up the ass, shooting an unbelievable number of single, un-screened shots on Brian Elliott (who had a ridiculously easy night thanks to no butts in front, no screens and no rebound attempts from the Wings, never mind sustained pressure by the Wings) and essentially playing like they didn't...

Red Wings Look to Shake Off the Cobwebs

Matchup: Detroit Red Wings vs. Colorado Avalanche Venue: Pepsi Center; Denver, Colorado Puck Drop: 9:00 PM EDT Broadcast: Fox Sports Detroit A great first period by the Detroit Red Wings, (18-14-5, 41 PTS, 7th in West), was squandered by a horrible second and third that saw them lose out on a crucial two points in [...]

Red Wings-Coyotes quick take: an earned loss

Contrary to what I'm sure will be suggested over the next 24 hours, the Detroit Red Wings' 4-2 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes was not the result of a team collectively and individually choosing to "screw the pooch" to "send a message" voicing their dissatisfaction with the team's management. The Red Wings did not lose because the ghosts of Jay Bouwmeester...

Red Wings-Blues set-up and overnight report: it’d be a ‘great story’ if the Wings win today

The Red Wings' game against the St. Louis Blues today (12:30 PM EDT, NBC Sports/NHL Network Canada/97.1 FM, and today the Wings are partnering with the Make-A-Wish Foundation at the Joe today) makes for "good TV" and "easy storytelling") for those without a rooting interest, for several reasons: After today's Winter Classic presser, a pair of teams...

Andrei Kirilenko's wife upset that husband was benched

The Nets’ 94-87 victory over the Raptors in Game 1 of their best-of-seven first round series had a lot of Brooklyn fans tweeting their joy at the win — all except one. Kind of.The win was surprising considering the fact that super sub and mid-game spark-plug Andrei Kirilenko didn't play a single minute for Brooklyn. And it appears his wife, Russian pop singer Masha Lopatova...
