(photo credit: Chicago Sun-Times) Susannah Collins, the sideline reporter who attained viral infamy due to her on-air slip-up on Tuesday when she uttered the now-famous Freudian slip about the Chicago Blackhawks having a “tremendous amount of sex” during the regular season instead of “tremendous amount of success,” has been fired by Comcast SportsNet Chicago, according to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times. A statement released by Comcast SportsNet Chicago claims that her on-air gaffe had nothing to do with Collins, who has been with Comcast SportsNet Chicago since 2012, suddenly being out of a job: “Due to circumstances unrelated to her on-air remarks Tuesday night, Susannah Collins and Comcast SportsNet Chicago have parted ways. We appreciate everything Susannah has contributed to our network over the past year and wish her the best in her future endeavors.” Collins attempted to take the whirlwind created by her mistake during pregame coverage of Game 1 of the playoff series between the Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild, tweeting out jokes about the hilarious mistake. Video of the Freudian slip that set things in motion: Collins handled the epic mistake with dignity, aplomb and self-deprecating humor: Thanks for laughing along with me & my “tremendous” slip, guys. Who couldn’t use a good chuckle every now & then right?? #Whoops! — Susannah Collins (@susannahcollins) May 1, 2013 Oh my. I’ve picked up over 200 followers in the last 50 minutes. Ah, the power of deadspin… #youguysarequick — Susannah Collins (@susannahcollins) May 1, 2013 Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to avoid saying “Clutterbuck” tonight. Can’t have a other slip-up! #thatdidntgothewayiplanned — Susannah Collins (@susannahcollins) May 1, 2013 @ssaltess I LOVE my job. #LuckyGal — Susannah Collins (@susannahcollins) May 1, 2013 Obviously, her sense of humor about the whole thing did not save the job that she loved. No one will ever know for certain how much of a role Collins’ on-air miscue had in her dismissal, but as is often said: There is no such thing as bad publicity so no one should expect the lovely and talented young woman to be out of a job for too long. • This happens all the time on Network News. None of them can get anything out of their mouths without flubbing it up. Why should this one be fired?
  • can happen to anyone reporters are under pressure with audince so large, whoever fires anyone for a mistake like this needs to get a life.it is just a common FACT people make mistakes.
  • I will tell you. It isn't about her mistake, or even her, it is about implanting PC fear among all workers in the media. She serves as an example if you displease the tyrant bosses who run everything. Do you really believe that the man who fired her doesn't know all people make mistakes, or, that he never did himself? She is an example to others, step out of line, even an inch, you're gone. Welcome to the new America. Land of the used to be free.
  • Well said...
  • Agreed, it was a stupid reason to fire her.
  • my bet is she's a conservative and they were looking for ANY reason to let her go......
  • The better question is why was she hired in the first place? It is time networks stop hiring "rink/court.field bunnies" for idiotic sideline reports that do nothing but interfere with a fan trying to actually...you know...WATCH THE GAME. And any actual reporting should be done by people who actually KNOW the sports and are hired for their knowledge rather than their looks.
  • Fired? For a mistake like this? And then for example I see on some news programs malicious comments made about the President and that's OK?
  • How about Sarah Palin? She's had lots of crap thrown at her, undeservedly, and no one gets even a hand slap...
  • [not displayed: comment from locked account]
  • Yeah. Have you ever heard of the first amendment? A small thing called freedom of speech that is part of the difference between this political system and facism. Thank you, come again.
  • I agree that she should not have been fired for this silly mistake. But, the 1st amendment doesn't apply when your working and on the company timeclock. Also, jbbmusic, yes, making malicious comments about the President is okay and protected by the 1st amendment. No one has been arrested for making comments about the President or Palin for that matter.
  • Firing her was kind of childish...and to say they are doing so for some unannounced reason, but NOT because of her flub is them believing we are all idiots and buy that line of baloney!

ESPN or FOX Sports should pick her up quickly...both better than Comcast anyhow. Comcast...one of the reasons I don't have cable anymore...switched to DISH almost 20 years ago. Comcast...SUCKS!
  • Another example of why COMCAST SUCK$. just wait, Comcast will find a way to take this as justification to raise everyone's cable bill by $50 a month and call it a "channel reconstruction" so they can turn around in 6 months and spend billions on buying a studio!

Susannah - hope you land on your feet with a bigger and better job!
  • This is just antoher example of corporate america over reacting
to an honest mistake that 99% of americans took and laughed over. They should be ASHAMED,ASHAMED,ASHAMED at their actions.
  • You Sir/Ma'am are an @##$#$%^%. This has nothing to do with race nor is my comment to you a FLUB!!!
  • Comcast fired her for a slip of the tongue. They steal TV time with their commercials. Who they going to fire over that.
  • why in the hell did they fire her???? it was an innocent frickin mistake! cumcast is full of idiots!
  • I hear Vivid is willing to pay her a cool million to do one porn video. So she has that to fall back on.
  • OK now this is Chicago, right, where your chances of being shot are about 10 to 1! So these guys fire somebody for mucking up a live TV spot.

Gotta say something about where everybody's head is in Chicago.

Do the right thing, admit the station is wrong and hire her back.

In the alternative, Susanna, use this as a sign and kiss Chicago goodbye.
  • She wasn't fired due to the slip up, she was fired for making a series of youtube videos 3 years ago - "Sports Nutz". While I see nothing wrong with the videos, she does say some things that could definitely be considered offensive by others.
  • Then she should have been fired three years ago. Clearly Comcast knew of the videos, they're on YouTube.
  • Wow, there it is. Just punch her name into YouTube. I find it hard to believe Comcast didn't know about that before they hired her, but when her flub went viral, but they sure know now.
  • And this is why you are alone with your blow up dolls scattered about your place. Who the hell uses the work "skank" anymore? How about we call the female members of your family skanks? Did you come from an ugly family, hit multiple times by the Ugly Tree, that they are not as attractive as the reporter?
  • Wow, yours is really a sad, pitiful uncalled for comment. Too bad your parents didn't do a better job raising you. That's sad for you.
  • You, sir, are a skank. Sorry that the ugly tree hit you too many times.
  • Buh By Comcast, Hello World !!
Reason 1 million why Comcast sukks !!

And do you hear the Blackhawks denying the statement ?? Maybe that is the secret, sure wish the Sharks would get some today......and be ready for the Vanky 2nite !!
  • I think I need to seriously consider firing Comcast as my internet provider for this!! This was NOT something someone should be fired for......NOT very Comcastic you douches!!

  • why should she get fired just for that. i could understand if she
was throwin bananas at people and cussin them out,but that was just
plain retarted to fire her for that was just plain WRONG
  • Speaking only to the flub she made on air; it was a doozy, but also hilarious. Where is your sense of humor? We don't have much to laugh at these days, so give her a break!!!!!!!!!
  • I undrestand you so clearly
  • Can't believe she was fired for that!? I'm from the Chicago area, she was definitely eye candy for us Blackhawk fans. I've been trying to tell my family to dump comcast for a long time, and get the DISH, they won't listen.....maybe now I got some ammuninition in that argument. Comcast is HORRIBLE!!! I can't wait till Cox Cable makes it into the midwest states.
  • Oh come ON! That's what makes live broadcasts fun.
Typical Communistcast tactics: expect perfection from everybody except themselves. That's a company to stay far, far away from if you want to maintain your sanity.
  • The poor girl just slipped up, not like the reporter in ND whose first on-air words were vulgarity. And she didn't even make an issue of it after she realized what she'd said. She handled it with professionalism and poise. One of the guys back in the newsroom snickered - you could hear it. Is he gonna get fired too for his childish reaction? Give the girl a second chance!
  • She shouldn't need a second chance. What she did does not justify job termination.
  • That's not nice, the young lady made a humorous mistake. Comcast's statement that she was not fired because of it is transparently lame and an obvious lie. If I had Comcast I'd drop them like a bad habit, I certainly will never purchase any of their services given the chance.
  • She was fired because she once co-hosted an Internet sports show called "Sports Nutz" - that show featured X-rated language, sexual innuendo, etc. Look it up on You Tube. Having said that, Comcast had to have known that was in her past and hired her anyway.Firing her now because people Googling "Susannah Collins" will find those old clips is cowardly, if you ask me. She did a GREAT job covering the Hawks and will be missed. Here's hoping she finds another 'dream gig', as she has described covering the Hawks.
  • Possibly she will consider a civil suit against Comcast for wrongful termination? I would.
  • I saw the clip. She slipped. It was a mistake and I think unintentional. She must have been fired for something in addition to this clip. If she was fired solely for the clip I disagree and she should be given her job back.
  • What's the big deal? She made a simple mistake - people do it all the time. I bet the Moron that fired her makes more mistakes than she does. I say sue their asses to total oblivian.
  • If I were on the jury she would get her job back! She did not say sex, she messed up saying success. You can not hire someone because of their past but you can not fire them either unless they lied about it and you did not know.
  • I've heard much worse that that. You can barely make out the mistake during the telecast. Nobody watches hockey anyways!!!
  • how sad she was fired, comcast owns nbc and their "news" programs make things up or lie all the time, she made a mistake and they fire her?! give me a break
  • She got fired for that? How absurd!
  • THIS WAS AN HONEST MISTAKE. MAYBE SHE HAD PLANS FOR LATER ON THAT NIGHT ON HER MIND AT THE TIME. NEVERTHELESS, SHE SHOULD STILL HAVE HER JOB!!! THIS WAS NOT A NORTH DAKOTA DUMB ASS ANCHORMAN MISTAKE.
  • Ridiculous to fire her!
  • She made a simple mistake. A slip of the tongue on air. Her firing was BS! With a bit of luck she should land on her feet and do fine. Good luck kid!
  • Ms. Collins seems intelligent enough to turn this into a golden goose egg, Hell I wouldn't kick her out for eating cookies in bed, She just outgrew the narrow minded management style of Comcast and can now move on to the professional networks.
  • Accidents do and will happen, Comcast should have handled it differently. She should have been given 2-3days off, apologized or something, she should be given another chance.
  • I thought it was quit funny and not offensive. Typical comcast they can't get anything right, they are the worst company I've ever delt with.
  • If the company is that stupid to fire her because she slipped up then corrected herself immediately then it's a company she shouldn't want to work for. I wouldn't work for a company like that!
  • Wow!! Fired over an unharmful slip up. The company should be ashamed of themselves. Shameful!!

  • F Comcast! She'll be better off in the long run anyways. Good luck Ms. Collins!
  • That would be cool if Fox got her. ESPN wont touch her with a ten meter cattleprod.
  • Wounder what Union party the CEO's and mangement are apart of,the Demicratic or Republican Union party.
  • Comcast SportsNet Chicago....sure, we believe you and, btw, the check is in the mail!

Meyer: NFL teams were bothered by Tebow media circus
