In Boston right now, we have a terrorist pleading not guilty and blowing kisses, a former NFL star accused of murder, mobsters swearing at each other in court, a cornerback on probation getting a DUI and of course Tim Tebow. But of all these news items and the crazy headlines they are producing, this report about Whitey Bulger takes the cake.

Via The Boston Liberal:

“Whitey Bulger got to experience something very few Boston fans have: watching the Bruins win the Stanley Cup in person.

According to an FBI agent who works out of the Boston office, the FBI tailed Whitey for several weeks before making an arrest.  Obviously, the FBI would not swoop in and arrest him the second they found him.  They wanted to find out who he was talking to, and who else might be providing him assistance.

While they were tailing him, he boldly drove 20+ hours from Santa Monica and crossed the Canadian border to Vancouver. There he somehow scored a game 7 ticket.”

Driving to Vancouver to watch the Boston Bruins win a Stanley Cup while being the FBI’s #1 most wanted criminal is so far past being a fan that I don’t even know what to call it. The FBI agents tailing Bulger had to think he was traveling to Canada for something a little more scandalous than a hockey game. They probably figured they were about to uncover some massive Canadian crime syndicate. and I would have paid a million dollars to be in the unmarked car with the agents when they saw him pull up to The Rogers Arena, scalp a ticket and go inside for Game 7.

For those unfamiliar with Bulger, he was powerful crime figure in the Boston-area during the second-half of the twentieth century (Jack Nicholson's character in 'The Departed' was loosely based on Bulger) He eventually became an informant for the FBI in 1975, but his criminal activities did not stop, in fact, he only became more powerful in the Boston underworld during this time. In 1994, he was tipped off that the Feds were coming after him with a RICO charge, and immediately went into hiding, where he would remain in the shadows for the next 16 years, until he was found to be living in Santa Monica with a long-time girlfriend and later arrested.

He is currently on trial in Boston, where he is accused of committing 19 murders.

1 Comment:
  • that's probably the only game the Stooges at the FBI know about most likely there were many more sport and entertainment events the great Whitey Bulger has been too.

Switch pitcher could see action in MLB

29-year-old New York Yankees minor leaguer Pat Venditte normally wouldn’t be a player worth noticing. He’s been in the minors for the past seven seasons after the Yankees selected him in the 45th round of the 2007 amateur draft.  On the surface, Venditte is nothing more than your non-prospect who has bounced around in small towns in an attempt to make it to the Majors. That’s...
