Nail Yakupov is frustrated with his role with the Edmonton Oilers, and he’s not keeping his thoughts to himself. The sophomore National Hockey League forward said after practice Tuesday that something had to be done about his dwindling ice time, which is obviously something he’s discussed with his agent, Igor Larionov. Larionov has stated he is making a trip to Edmonton this week to speak about his client’s status with the club “I don’t see any trust (in) me now because I play lower and lower minutes. I just want to try to help my team win every game ... but I don’t have much chance to do that,” Yakupov said. “It’s pretty hard to watch the game from the bench when my teammates are fighting for the puck, fighting for points. “I know I can do the same thing.” Yakupov went on to say that he wants to stay in Edmonton, but he is definitely not happy. He’s been a healthy scratch this season and his ice time, over the last four games, has dropped from 12:47 against the Florida Panthers to 10:54 in Sunday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks. He was skating with Ryan Smyth and Marc Arcobello in preparation for Wednesday’s game against the Dallas Stars. “We have to figure out something,” Yakupov said. “I want to play. I just don’t want to play nine or five minutes. I think I can play more. I think I can help my teammates to do something to get some points. I’m 20 years old, and I think this is a pretty important year for me. “Sometimes, players who are sitting a lot when they are 19, 20 years old, just don’t play hockey anymore.” Just last week, in the midst of circulating rumours the winger was going to be traded, head coach Dallas Eakins made a point of reassuring Yakupov he was not going to be traded, that the intent was to make him a better player.
