First off Henrik Lundqvist said again there was nothing new to report in negotiations for a new contract extension with a potential deadline on the talks coming with the start of the season Thursday at Phoenix. Lundqvist said on Sunday the sides would talk at least once more before the team left for Arizona. Rick Nash was back on the ice today after missing Sunday’s practice with a sore foot after blocking a shot in Friday’s 4-1 loss to the Kings at Las Vegas. And Ryan Callahan was back in a yellow jersey - typically a non-contact jersey - after being cleared for contact on Thursday and being a full participant in Sunday’s practice. However both Callahan and coach Alain Vigneault said this was not a setback and the captain was still cleared for contact as he recovers from offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Callahan is on injured reserve to start the season and both he and Vigneault essentially ruled out Thursday’s opener at Phoenix. But with four days between that first game and the second game Oct. 7 at Los Angeles Callahan is expected back in the lineup quickly. “Full contact same as always” Callahan said. “I felt great after yesterday. It responded well. Everything felt good.” Vigneault explained with Nash returning to practice he wanted too many different colored jerseys on the ice so he put Callahan in the same yellow that Hagelin wore. For Hagelin recovering from the same offseason shoulder surgery and on long-term injured reserve meaning he must miss the first 10 games yellow does equal no contact. “Since Rick was in practice today I didn’t want to have four colors and we can’t hit Haggy so I put (Callahan) in yellow” Vigneault said. “He doesn’t like it either.” Here were today’s lines and defense pairs: Brad Richards-Derek Stepan-Rick Nash Benoit Pouilot-Derick Brassard-Mats Zuccarello Taylor Pyatt-Brian Boyle-Jesper Fast (who is now wearing No. 12) J.T. Miller-Dominic Moore-Derek Dorsett/Arron Asham Ryan McDonagh-Dan Girardi Marc Staal-Michael Del Zotto John Moore-Anton Stralman Plus the Rangers spent a good portion of today’s practice working on the power play and special teams and will do so again tomorrow. “That’s a work in progress” Vigneault said. “It needs work and we’re going to put in the time.”
