Last night was the NHL All Star Draft for the game this weekend.  I think this is so genius and so much fun to have two captains pick their own team rather than just doing East versus the West.  Could you imagine if the NFL did the Pro Bowl like that?  The two captains were Ottawa’s Daniel Alfredsson and  Boston’s Zdeno Chara.

I was a little surprised that Evgeni Malkin lasted until pick #5  overall, 3rd on Team Chara.  Being that he is leading the league in points right now, I expected him to be pick one or two.   The Penguins Kris Letang went next at pick #10 to Team Alfredsson, with James Neal bringing up the rear for the Penguins at pick #28 was also picked to Team Alfredsson.  That left Malkin all by his lonesome on Team Chara.  I was kind of hoping to have the dynamic duo together on the same team so they could dominate the All Star game.  My dream obviously did not come true, but should still make for some fun this weekend.

Glad to see 3 of our very deserving guys involved with the All Star game this weekend.  The game will be played on Sunday at 4pm.  If you want to check out the full rosters you can see them at the NHL’s website.

Which Active NHL Player Would You Pick to Start a Franchise?

The NHL All-Star fantasy draft will take place on Thursday night, but the key word there is "fantasy." After all the fun of All-Star weekend, the players picked for Team Chara and Team Alfredsson will return to their home franchises, hopefully no worse for the wear. Yandle to Team Alfredsson in All-Star draft

Keith Yandle had to wait around for a little while Thursday night, but not nearly as long as Logan Couture. Yandle, the Coyotes' lone representative in the NHL All-Star Game, went in the 11th round (out of 19 rounds) of the All-Star draft, selected by team captain Daniel Alfredsson of the host Senators. Yandle was the fifth defenseman selected for Alfredsson's team and...

Bruins Midseason Report Card: Zdeno Chara Headlines Defense Corps That’s Been Solid in First Half of Season

While the Bruins leading the NHL in scoring is a bit of a surprise, seeing Boston near the top of the NHL in goals against is nothing new. The Bruins have always been a stout defensive team under Claude Julien. And while Julien’s system calls for the forwards to help out defensively and the top-flight tandem of Tim Thomas and Tuukka Rask in goal have a lot to do with the Bruins...
