PLAYERS: Gary Bettman
For the first time in eight days, the NHL and the players' association are heading back to the bargaining table to try again to reach a deal that will end the two-month old lockout. Talks will resume on Monday, the 65th day of the lockout that has already wiped out 327 games and threatens the entire season if a settlement isn't reached soon. After turning down a suggestion from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman to take a two-week break from negotiations, the union requested another meeting with the league that was scheduled Saturday. It will be the first bargaining session between the sides since Nov. 11, when a busy week of negotiating wrapped up with a session that lasted just over an over and didn't produce any results. All games through Nov. 30 and the New Year's Day Winter Classic have been called off. Another round of cancellations is expected this week if a new deal isn't reached.

Gary Bettman: Three Strikes You’re Out

While the calendar continues to turn month by month, one thing has been consistent: a lack of NHL hockey.  Since the second lockout of Commissioner Gary Bettman’s tenure in the 2004-2005 season, hockey’s popularity in North America has grown exponentially.  The average attendance in the NHL last year was 17,455, higher than the rival NBA, and up 1.8% from two seasons ago, while...

Impeach Bettman

Sometimes, when I'm feeling lonely and blue, I fantasize that I'll have the will power to conditionally boycott hockey.  I imagine taking a stand, giving up blogging and watching and fretting because the bad men stole my game from me, personally. But I know for a fact I'd never stick to it.  Then I start rationalizing and there are moments when I actually believe I...

Mike Augello: The Missives Of November; Marlies Shutout Abbotsford

Eklund: Ed Snider is Not Anti-Bettman and not Feuding with Jacobs..

I am boarding a plane for Florida so I will be brief. (Unless the wifi works on this flight) Just a clarification here. Ed Snider is definitely one of the powers players in this lockout. His connections run deep with the NHL and Comcast/NBC. He wants to play hockey. No question. He has many progressive ideas...no question. However, he isn't feuding with Gary Bettman...
