Under the new CBA agreement between the NHL and NHLPA, there is a provision called a "compliance buyout". The original agreement was that team were able to buyout maximum two contracts after this shortened season.
After the news of Scott Gomez basically being told not to come to Montreal's training camp, the players had a problem with it. The players pushed for an "accelerated compliance buyout", which the league has agreed too.
Teams are now allowed to buyout maximum of two contracts before Saturday. The team will be charged the full cap hit, and the players will make 100% of the contract. I don't expect the Flyers to buyout any contract this season.
