This is going to go over well...Via RedWingsFeed and MLive's Brendan Savage, NHL.com took a poll among 10 of their writers and NHL Network contributors, and Corey Masisak reports that the group deemed Red Wings coach Mike Babcock to be the league's best coach: 1. Mike Babcock (5 first-place votes) -- 68 points: Babcock is proof that a great coach can come from just about anywhere in hockey. His only playing experience as a professional came in England, though he was a captain at McGill University. He didn't have a ton of success at the Canadian junior level as a coach, reaching the Western Hockey League finals twice in eight years. Red Wings recall Sheahan, who had an infamous DUI

The Detroit Red Wings have recalled Riley Sheahan from their American Hockey League affiliate. The move was made Saturday, a day before Detroit hosts the St. Louis Blues. Detroit drafted Sheahan in the first round of the 2010 NHL draft and he played in one game for the Red Wings last year. He had 35 points in 67 games this season for the Grand Rapids Griffins. Sheahan pleaded...

After Detroit Red Wings Let Another Deadline Pass, Pressure is on Ken Holland to Perform Soon

After another trade deadline passed without a move getting done, Ken Holland needs to do more this offseason to shake up his roster and surround his stars like Henrik Zetterberg with more talent. (Tom Gromak, Flickr) “We like our team. There’s not a deal out there which can make us better. We’ll get a lot of guys back from injury, which should help us moving forward.” ...

Red Wings-Coyotes wrap-up and Wings-Avs set-up: brain fart loss yields urgency vs. Avs

The Detroit Red Wings caught a very late flight to Colorado to prepare for tonight's game against the Avalanche (9 PM EDT, FSD/Altitude/97.1 FM) having placed themselves in a particularly desperate situation thanks to their awful showing in a 4-2 loss to Phoenix on Thursday evening. The Wings now sit in 7th place in the Western Conference standings with 41 points, but the 18...

VIDEO: Datsyuk’s OT winner gives the Wings two crucial points against the Avalanche

Pavel Datsyuk had the first and last laugh Friday night as the Detroit Red Wings picked up two crucial points in a 3-2 overtime win against the Avalanche. Datsyuk opened up the scoring in the first period when he picked up his 12th goal of the season on the power play after a nice feed from Johan Franzen. But it was his second goal that turned out to be the game winner in overtime...

22 minutes of Pavel Datsyuk dangles (VIDEO)

Name another athlete who can provide 22 minutes of “wow.”  I’ll hang up and listen.

Red Wings Lose Their Edge, 4-2 to Coyotes

The Red Wings put up a pathetic 2nd and 3rd period effort and pay dearly, losing 4-2 to the Coyotes. The Red Wings came out and dominated the entire first period. The pressure in the offensive zone was great and kept providing scoring chances for all of the forward lines. They opened the [...]

Red Wings mid-day mishmash: on the Gordie Howe movie, injuries, personnel and funny Tweets

The Red Wings won't take to the ice to prepare for tonight's game against the Phoenix Coyotes (10 PM EDT, FSD/NHL Network U.S. and the Center Ice/GCL blackouts that come with an NHL Net game/97.1 FM) until around 2 PM EDT, but the Red Wings' website and DetroitRedWings.com's Bill Roose area already in game-day mode... Good morning, Phoenix, where the @detroitredwings...

Red Wings-Avalanche Preview

The Detroit Red Wings' quest for a 22nd straight playoff berth appears to be going down to the wire. The visiting Red Wings know they probably can't afford to lose to the NHL's worst team Friday night when they try to complete their first season sweep of the Colorado Avalanche in five years. Detroit (18-14-5) is in seventh place in the crowded Western Conference. Eighth...

Talking Red Wings fans down from the ledge after what didn’t happen on deadline day

We’re now more than 24 hours past the NHL trade deadline and by all account Red Wing fans are still running down Woodward acting as if the sky is falling in Hockeytown. Yes the Wings are fighting for their playoff lives and it was another year that Ken Holland didn’t make that big free agent signing or deal at the deadline to fill some of the holes on the roster. And I’m sure...

Red Wings-Avalanche game-day updates: no news on Wings’ scratches due to no morning skate

The Detroit Red Wings basically have to win tonight's game against the Colorado Avalanche (9 PM EDT, FSD/Altitude/97.1 FM) thanks to their awful performance in the team's 4-2 loss to Phoenix last night, and we already know that the Wings will swap out three defensemen for Ian White, Kyle Quincey and Danny DeKeyser. The Avs' morning skate revealed little in the way of...

As “The Mule” Goes So Do The Wings?

from Ansar Khan of Mlive, “I thought Mule was fantastic in the middle, dominated the faceoff circle, really played well, went head-to-head against (Matt) Duchene all night long and was very good,'' Babcock said. Babcock paired Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg together in an effort to energize the team following Thursday's 4-2 loss at Phoenix. He had Franzen...

Red Wings-Avalanche quick take: leaders of the pack help Wings rope-a-dope high-altitude win

It's all about regulation or overtime wins for the Red Wings, and in what may or may not have been a make-or-break-the-season game--with Sunday's opponent, the Blues, pulling ahead of the Wings in the Western Conference standings... The Detroit Red Wings dominated the first period against the Colorado Avalanche, nearly gave the game away in the second and third periods...

Red Wings Look to Shake Off the Cobwebs

Matchup: Detroit Red Wings vs. Colorado Avalanche Venue: Pepsi Center; Denver, Colorado Puck Drop: 9:00 PM EDT Broadcast: Fox Sports Detroit A great first period by the Detroit Red Wings, (18-14-5, 41 PTS, 7th in West), was squandered by a horrible second and third that saw them lose out on a crucial two points in [...]

Red Wings-Coyotes quick take: an earned loss

Contrary to what I'm sure will be suggested over the next 24 hours, the Detroit Red Wings' 4-2 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes was not the result of a team collectively and individually choosing to "screw the pooch" to "send a message" voicing their dissatisfaction with the team's management. The Red Wings did not lose because the ghosts of Jay Bouwmeester...
