EDMONTON, Alberta -- The Edmonton Oilers learned a valuable lesson Monday. Listen to your coach. After a morning video session in which Ralph Krueger stressed the importance of simplifying their game -- getting the puck deep instead of trying to dipsy-doodle over the opposition's blue line -- they did exactly that. And it worked. The Oilers rolled to a convincing 4-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche at Rexall Place. "We got pucks in, used our speed to get in on the forecheck, were able to tire them out and we drew a few penalties," Oilers captain Shawn Horcoff sid. "That's what we need to do. It's no secret that our key is our speed." They used it with deadly efficiency, drawing six Colorado penalties and scoring on four of them. The Oilers controlled the first period, spending almost all of it in the Colorado end and scoring twice with the man advantage. Ales Hemsky connected at 15:23 and Jordan Eberle at 18:05. By the time the smoke...

NHL analyst Don Cherry ripped into Edmonton's Nail Yakupov for his excessive goal celebration against the Los Angeles Kings.
Chalk up another win for the Edmonton Oilers. Why did they win?
- Because their powerplay can score at will. Both units are brilliant.
- Because Hall/Eberle/Nuge is one of the best lines in hockey. They completely control the game when they're on the ice.
- Because Oilers Head Coach Ralph Krueger actually gave Teemu Hartikainen some real ice time, and he made the most...
Watch the video hereAs we all expected, Don Cherry was going to have some interesting comments on Nail Yakupov's crazy celebration from Thursday. Tonight, on Coach's Corner, Cherry's message to Yaukpov was, "LA is going to remember this, they will remember this 'till the dying day, that you don't do stuff like that."Then, while CBC played Theo Fleury...

The Edmonton Oilers still haven't led in 2012-13.
They're hoping to change that Monday night when they open the season series with the Colorado Avalanche, who are still looking for their first road win.
Just four games into the season, the Oilers (2-2-0) already have a pair of impressive come-from-behind victories. They rallied from two down in the second period in a 3...
EDMONTON, Alberta -- The Edmonton Oilers jumped over Colorado in the Northwest Division standings on Monday night with a 4-1 win over the Avalanche at Rexall Place. The Avalanche were missing a couple of key ingredients in Gabriel Landeskog (head injury) and Ryan O’Reilly (contract holdout), and the Oilers were steaming after a disappointing loss to rival Calgary on Hockey Night...
Shane Doan's dirty hit on Shawn Horcoff near the end of the 3rd period should have been a 5 and a game penalty. It wasn't. Actually, Sam Gagner from the Oilers got a penalty because the refs thought he was tackled improperly by Coyotes forward Nick Johnson. Horcoff left the game, and my guess is, he has a concussion. Doan, as usual, got away with it. I love his talent, but...
