Will Oilers keep top pick in town?

While Ryan Nugent-Hopkins could probably use a little seasoning in the minors, the top pick in June's draft is showing he may already be too good to send down.

Petry Demoted

Jeff Petry was sent down today by the Edmonton Oilers. The "victim of a numbers game" is one of the six best defensemen available when all are healthy, but is also the one blue who is not waiver eligible. Oiler defenders who could reasonably be placed below Petry on a true depth chart would include Theo Peckham and Cam Barker. The Oilers top 6D are probably Ryan Whitney...

Lack of Scoring Becoming Concerning

The Edmonton Oilers have had various struggles this week; many games after playing so few, players come and going through the lineup due to injuries and the dreaded fall flu. Has he proved he should stay with the club after nine games? The question arises now as to whether or not Nugent-Hopkins will stay, or even play, as coach Tom Renney said he is considering benching the rookie in the team’s tilt...
