The Edmonton Oilers placed center Gilbert Brule and three others on waivers on Sunday.
The team is planning on assigning Brule - along with forwards Josh Green, Ryan Keller and Ryan O'Marra - to Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League.
Brule collected seven goals and two assists in 41 games last season with the Oilers. The 24-year-old saw his campaign cut short by a concussion in March.
Brule recorded a career-high 17 goals and 20 assists in the 2009-10 season.

Oilers Down to 23 Thanks to IR
The Edmonton Oilers have made their “final” cuts Sunday, and there was at least one surprise. Gilbert Brule is in the last year of his one way contract, but has a highly publicized bought of depression/illness that has kept him out of the Oilers’ lineup for much of last season, and kept the first round centreman from being traded to the Los Angeles Kings. Sunday...
Lander Wins NHL Job
The Edmonton Oilers made some roster decisions this afternoon, sending down several forwards. On waivers and on their way to OKC are Gilbert Brule, Josh Green, Ryan Keller and Ryan O'Marra. Brule's difficulties this preseason, added to the worries about availability during the regular year have probably cost him dearly. An NHL team could claim him, but it is unlikely. The...

With or without Bru: Edmonton Oilers cut Gilbert Brule
In honor of his placement on waivers by Edmonton, please follow the bouncing Brule …
In 2009-10, Gilbert Brule finally showed some of the promise of being the No. 6 overall pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2005: 37 points in 65 games with the Edmonton Oilers.
Last season undid most of that optimism: Injuries, illness and ineffectiveness marred his 41-game campaign during which...
Renney Stresses Confidence For His Players
Coach Tom Renney gets asked a million questions every day, but Monday’s questions seemed to be concerning many more topics than usual. Renney was asked about the condition of his players, his choices for cuts, his starting lineup, about the players who weren’t cut, the team trip to Jasper and everything else the people of Oil Country would like to know. The Edmonton Oilers...
Watch the Waiver Wire
The Oilers have cut down their roster and should be able to reach the 23-man limit by putting various players on IR. Candidates include Sam Gagner, Ben Eager, Ladislav Smid and Taylor Fedun. The Smid injury is described by Jim Matheson: Smid’s right shoulder is likely either dislocated or separated, not that the Oilers are letting on how bad it is. Smid says he’ll take treatment...

Sorry for being a few hours late on the draw. I was distracted; watching a Deadliest Catch marathon on the Discovery Channel.
No big surprises in respect to the Oilers final roster cuts. Those close to the team started making noise about a week ago that Gilbert Brule could be placed on waivers, and if he survived the...
Top overall pick starting season with Oilers
Top overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will start the season with the Edmonton Oilers.
He is set to make his NHL debut against the Pittsburgh Penguins at home on Sunday.
The 18-year-old Nugent-Hopkins might yet end up back in junior hockey because Edmonton has roster decisions remaining.
The Oilers have a nine-game window in which to look at him without using up a year of his entry...
Nugent-Hopkins may be sent to juniors
As impressive as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been in his first seven NHL games, the rookie sensation has no guarantee he will remain in the big leagues all season.
Nugent-Hopkins leads rookies with five goals and seven points, but the 18-year-old center, taken by the Oilers with the No. 1 pick in this year's draft, still can't yet claim a permanent address.
With two games to...
PS G8 Oilers at Canucks
It appears as though the Oilers have snookered themselves again, and once again it's the blue. With the team already subpar at the position, news came just before camp that Ryan Whitney was hurting. Whitney still hasn't played, and after last night (Minnesota is a black hole for the Oilers) the list of walking wounded is massive. Whitney has been joined by Taylor Fedun (in...
Prospect Progress
The end of preseason games for the Oilers gives us our first chance to catch up on prospects and their early performances. As always, there are surprises good and bad, worries and smiles, up arrows and down elevators. CHLMartin Gernat: 4, 3-4-7 +4: I don't really know what to say about this player and his start. Good job? Let's not get too excited. Brandon Davidson 5, 1-6...
