San Jose, CA–Today the San Jose made it official as they announced their 23 man roster for the 2013-2014 NHL season. To no real surprise, 2012 1st round draft pick Tomas Hertl has been penciled in along with prospects Matt Nieto and Freddie Hamilton to the opening night. Also to no big shocker, Alex Stalock became the winner over Harri Sateri in the “dog fight” battle for Antti Niemi’s backup net minder. Unfortunately for PTO player Anthony Stewart, he did not make the final cut with the Sharks and was released making him an unrestricted free agent. The Sharks will start the season off without some its veteran players as Martin Havlat continues his road recovery from surgery he had during the offseason.  There is no current timetable for Marty’s return.  Also not in lineup is Raffi Torres who just recently had successful knee operation to repair is right ACL, he is scheduled to be out of commission for 3-4 months.  In addition, both Brad Stuart and Adam Burish are considered as question marks for opening night as those two are still dealing with lower body injuries. According to Kevin Kurz of Comcast Sports Net California he reported that if Hertl, Nieto, and Hamilton do happen to start against the Canucks, they would be younger than San Jose Sharks organization itself. The Sharks were established in 1991 and played their first ever NHL game on October 4th of 1991-92 season in Vancouver.  That’s an interesting factoid, given the fact that oldest of the three rookies is Freddie Hamilton and he just 21 years of age. San Jose’s first game of the regular is on October 4th against the Vancouver Canucks at the SAP Center. That contest has 7:00pst start time and can be seen on CSNCA-HD and be heard on 9.85/102.1 KFOX.   Ryan Bayer Bay Sport Report Sharks Reporter @81Bayer Follow us on Twitter @BSRSharks for all your up-to-date San Jose Sharks, Worcester Sharks, and San Francisco Bulls news
