The news keeps getting better for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Reigning NHL MVP Evgeni Malkin returned to the lineup Thursday night against Winnipeg after missing nine games with an upper-body injury. The team activated Malkin less than a day after acquiring Calgary captain Jarome Iginla in a blockbuster trade.
To make room for Malkin, the Penguins sent rookie winger Beau Bennett to Wilkes Barre-Scranton of the AHL.
Malkin has five goals and 19 assists in 24 games this season. He sat out four games earlier this season because of a concussion.
Pittsburgh's No. 1 goaltender, Marc-Andre Fleury, was scratched from the lineup while recovering from a collision in a 1-0 win victory over Montreal on Tuesday night. Tomas Vokoun started against the Jets, with Jeff Zatkoff called up from the AHL to serve as a backup.

With rumors flying all over the place that the Boston Bruins had put together a big time trade that would rival or even surpass the two that the Penguins had just made around midnight last night, I can just picture Penguins Assistant Coach Tony Granato running over to Head Coach Dan Bylsma and saying, “Do the jingle, do the jingle” Bylsma then proceeded to sing, “Like a good...
Pascal Dupuis scored twice and Evgeni Malkin had a goal in his return to the lineup, leading the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 4-0 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night for their 14th straight win.
Chris Kunitz had a goal and an assist and Sidney Crosby had two assists to push his league-best points total to 56 as the Penguins capped a giddy 24 hours and moved within three...
It sure is a wonderful time to be a Penguins fan. With a little help from friends Pascal Dupuis and Chris Kunitz, Sidney Crosby has reestablished himself as the finest player in the game. Our boys are making mincemeat out of the rest of the NHL to the tune of 14-straight wins. They’ve allowed only 9 goals in the past 10 games—including three shutouts!
Heck, when Pens GM Ray Shero...

Man that was a pretty heavy title.
The Pens are down a top blue line prospect what with Joe Morrow being dealt for non-related Stars captain Brenden Morrow. We say "down" in only a certain sense, as the pipeline still holds Simon Despres, Robert Bortuzzo, Scott Harrington, Brian Dumoulin, Olli Maaty and Derrick Pouliot.
Well one of those prospects, Scott Harrington...
The Bruins thought they had Jarome Iginla — then they didn’t.
After losing out on the longtime Calgary captain to the Pittsburgh Penguins — who had also previously acquired Brenden Morrow and Doug Murray — suggesting it’s panic time for the Bruins might not be too far off the mark. Nonetheless, the players that are actually on the team are staying focused, saying that they’re...
Sidney Crosby isn't concerned about making history. He'd also prefer not to have the Pittsburgh Penguins repeat it.
Sure, Crosby is enjoying Pittsburgh's 14-game winning streak. Yet he also knows his team's perfect run through March won't mean a thing if the Penguins don't come through in May and June.
''I don't think anyone is going to remember...
Goddamn. Jay Feaster is so incompetent at his job that now he's expanded business to Boston. Not only did he tell Chiarelli that the Bruins had Jarome Iginla, he also requested the Bruins sign that one-year contract with Matt Bartkowski so he'd be all contracted up for the Flames when the trade was finalized.
Matt Bartkowski confirmed his one-way contract was...

Peter Chiarelli stood in front of the Boston media Thursday afternoon looking like a tired and beaten man. In many ways, there were no better words to describe the Bruins general manager.
Hopefully for his own physical sake he got a little bit of shut-eye after that revealing news conference, but he doesn’t have much time to rest. But then again, there’s no rest for the weary...
Jarome Iginla appeared to be headed to Boston to put on the Black and Gold. He’ll be wearing those same colors, but he’ll be doing so a few hundred miles south.
In an absolutely shocking turn of events, the Calgary Flames announced early Thursday morning (on the East Coast) that they had traded Iginla to the Penguins. Multiple reports had Iginla heading to Boston, with a deal...
UPDATE: the Pittsburgh Penguins, not the Boston Bruins, have acquired long-time Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla. Calgary will receive forwards Ben Hanowski and Kenny Agostino and a first round pick in the 2013 Draft.
