Last night started out much the same as the past three games, penalties, soft goals and a crazy period.  The Flyers continue to be strong on the Power Play going 3 for 5.  But last night on 8 power plays the Penguins had they scored on 4 of them and gave up no shorthanded goals.  But the real difference came in the 5 on 5 play.  All of the Flyers’ goals came on Power Plays and the Penguins held them to only 25 shots on goal the whole game.

Some other notable differences with this game is that the Evgeni Malkin we have come to know this season showed up and put in two goals, including our first goal of the evening.  Sidney Crosby played great adding two assists and a goal.  And let’s not forget a hat trick for Jordan Staal.  This makes five goals in  two games for Staal.  Matt Niskanen also added a goal and looked to have a second but the second bounced of Crosby and was credited to him.  Steve Sullivan was phenomenal having a hang in 3 of the 4 power play goals, scoring one and assisting on 2 others.

But the real difference was Fleury’s play last night.  He was so great in the 2nd and 3rd period, making a great save on Claude Giroux and holding them scoreless.  Our team can score, that’s no secret but what we’ve lacked since the first game was defense.  If that’s back I see no reason why we can’t pull a few wins out and make this a series.  One game at a time and the next one is on Friday.
