Pittsburgh Penguins (11-5-0) @ St. Louis Blues (10-2-2) Root Sports, FS-MW - 8:00 pm/et  Scottrade Center - St. Louis, MO The Western Conference is essentially a million times better than the East right now and the Central Division makes the Metropolitan Division look even worse garbage than it looks on its own. The Penguins and the Blues have the same number of points in the standings but, while the Pens have a four-point Metropolitan Division lead, the Blues are third in the Central. Basically, if the Pens were in the Central, they'd be battling the Blues for a playoff spot instead of nearly running away with the first overall seed. It will be interesting  to see how the Pens respond after putting in a terrible overall game against the New York Rangers on Wednesday. It looks like Beau Bennett might be back, which is nice. Did you know that Alexander Steen of the Blues currently leads the league in goals? That surprised us for some reason. ST...

In the NHL, no one is winning faceoffs like Vladimir Sobotka

ST. LOUIS -- Ken Hitchcock calls Vladimir Sobotka his jack-of-all-trades. He does a little bit of everything for the St. Louis Blues, and for the most part does all of them very well. This includes taking faceoffs, where Sobotka is the current NHL leader at 64.5 percent. He is winning 82.4 percent of his draws on the power play while winning 62.2 percent at even strength. He'...

Pittsburgh Penguins get embarrased in New York

Wednesday night Pittsburgh lost to the New York Rangers 5-1 in Madison Square Garden.  Pittsburgh was coming off back-to-back victories beating the Columbus Bluejackets in a home and home.  Pittsburgh came into the game 11-4 with a four game winning streak.  Pittsburgh had three days off before going to New York. Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was the star of the game stopping...

Blues Steen is on fire and we finally acknowledged it

We've been neglecting Alexander Steen and the St. Louis Blues for far too long, but no more! The man is on fire and the Blues have been one of the West's best teams. So, I owe Alexander Steen, the St. Louis Blues and their fans an apology. It's taken far too long for me to write anything solely devoted to what he's doing this season and it took me far longer than...

Young Penguins forward Jayson Megna adjusting to super sidekicks

It might have been the best party Jayson Megna has attended. Certainly, it set a career path for him. Not that he realized that at the time. After all, he was only 7 years old. He never had been on ice skates, but he was game to try at a friend’s birthday party at a rink in suburban Chicago. “I hung onto the wall a little bit, then did my best to shuffle around the ice,...

Penguins expect plenty of hard-hitting action against the Blues

Sidney Crosby is a pretty earnest guy, especially when talking about his work. So, when Crosby says he’s genuinely looking forward to spending a little quality time with the St. Louis Blues tonight, there’s no reason to doubt him. But plenty of reasons to wonder why he —and so many teammates – would feel that way. OK, perhaps it’s not all that difficult to understand...

Penguins-Blues Preview

Though the Pittsburgh Penguins have a chance to measure themselves against one of the better teams in the Western Conference on Saturday night, it's their previous game that may be occupying their thoughts. Looking to rebound from a lopsided loss to a division rival, the Penguins close out a three-game road trip against the surging St. Louis Blues in a high-profile matchup of...

Jeff Quirin: Game 15: Pens @ Blues - Olympic Subplots & Measuring Sticks

When the Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues take the ice at Scottrade Center Saturday night the amount of attention given to the final score and individual performances is going to be higher than the average cross conference contest. Not only do the two teams represent the upper echelon of their respective conference their top players will go head to head before joining forces...
