Larry Brooks over at the NY Post this morning reports Ranger players are actively looking to rent rinks in the NYC metro area, to maintain their level of conditioning and to prepare for John Tortorella's infamous bag skating tests if/when the 2012-13 season begins. The players had been practicing every few days at the Rangers training facility since the middle of August, getting ready for the beginning of training camp which was set to begin this coming Friday.Ryan Callahan:“We’ve looked into different possibilities concerning rinks and will come up with a plan, just about everybody is staying here at least for the foreseeable future, so we’re going to come up with a plan where we can skate as a group three or four times a week... I think it’s going to be as tough to stay mentally sharp and focused as it’s going to be to stay in top physical condition, but we have the benefit of being in great shape because of all the preparation we’ve done in advance of the testing...”Br...

John Tortorella: A Shade of Herb Brooks?
When talking about hockey coaches and the impact they have on their respective clubs to be better, one name that should come to mind is legendary Hockey Hall of Famer Herb Brooks.
Brooks was behind the bench when Team USA won Olympic Gold in 1980 and finished with the Silver Medal in 2002. "Herbie" was also behind the bench for the New York Rangers in the early 1980...
If Cap Squeezed Del Zotto Screwed
Since the Rangers and Michael Del Zotto couldn't agree on a deal before the previous CBA expired at midnight last night, the young Rangers defenseman is at the mercy of the new CBA, which, according to Larry Brooks at the New York Post, might not be a good thing for him..."If the cap is squeezed coming out of the lockout, Del Zotto, who may see his arbitration rights and...
Redden to Be Locked Out
Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun reports that Wade Redden is expected to be among those players blocked from going to training camp when the lockout takes effect tonight at 11:59 p.m..."It'll be a money-saving move by the Rangers. Redden, 35, is scheduled to make $5 million this season with a salary-cap hit of $6.5 million on a deal that doesn't expire until the end...
No End In Sight?: The New York Rangers and the NHL Lockout.
At 12:01 this morning, the previous Collective Bargaining Agreement signed by the NHL Owners and the NHL Players Association expired, effectively putting the 2012-2013 NHL season into question.
But what does the lockout mean for the New York Rangers? After a very successful 2011-2012 season, where they made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals and were only two games away...
While the NHL is away these kids will still play
Peter Ceresnak (Peterborough Petes)
On the day when NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced that there will be yet another lockout; the best response was simple the New York Ranger and New York Islander prospects are still going to keep playing. For all of you who are swearing off hockey because of the NHL/NHLPA nonsense then you don't know what you are going to miss.

Snap reactions to EA Sports NHL 13
Snap reactions to NHL 13, which I finally got to try out on Thursday night.
1. The video introduction by Claude Giroux about the new skating system was hilarious. Giroux was totally disinterested, but it’s actually a really effective explanation of the revamped skating.
2. Derek Stepan scored my first goal in NHL 13. Just saying, I think he has more goals in him this season...
New York Rangers Must Lock up Ryan McDonagh
The New York Rangers need to start taking notes. The Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers recently gave big contract extensions to their young stars, and the Rangers should do the same in the next two days.
Michael Del Zotto still hasn’t signed his two- or three-year deal, and if general manager Glen Sather was smart, he’d give him a bigger offer in terms of years. Besides Del Zotto...
Del Zotto Not Expected To Sign Contract Prior To Lockout
If the Rangers and Michael Del Zotto want to get a contract signed under the current CBA then they're going to have to get things moving quickly. The NHL locks out at midnight tonight, and according to ESPN's Katie Strang, it appears that the a deal won't be reached beforehand. #NYR No deal expected to be reached between Rangers and defenseman Michael Del Zotto before...
Jan Levine: Caps Sign Carlson, McDonagh not MDZ Needs to Be Main Focus
Much of the focus following Washington's signing of John Carlson to a six-year, $23.8 million deal has been on the Rangers need to sign MDZ. While I agree with that to a certain extent, the bigger key is to lock up Ryan McDonagh long-term.
We all know MDZ is an RFA and the two sides are probably at least a million a year apart in terms of his expected (MDZ) and perceived ...
Gaborik Looking Good
When it was reported on Tuesday that Marian Gaborik (shoulder) skated during an informal practice, the thought in my head was of him skating circles by himself in the corner, not leading the break on a potential odd man rush with Ryan Callahan (via Blueshirts United)......am I the only one surprised with this picture? I know you can't tell much by looking at one photo, but I...

It's Official: NHL Season Locked Out Until Further Notice
It's officially official.
The 2012-13 NHL hockey season has been locked out until further notice. Negotiations between the league and the NHLPA will continue in the coming weeks/months (we hope), hopefully ending in a resolution that will bring about a delayed start to the season rather than a year-long lockout, but nothing is certain.
As for the rules applied to players...
