Philadelphia Flyers @ Pittsburgh Penguins - 7:30 PM/ET

Series Tied 0-0

Consol Energy Center - Pittsburgh, PA

TV: ROOT, CSN-PH, NBCSN, TSN, RDS

Here we are. Nothing is better than this. Nothing. For all of the tension, heartache, stress, rage, nausea and pain that the Stanley Cup playoffs bring, this is still the best time of the year. That's because the Stanley Cup playoffs also bring excitement, joy, elation and the unforgettable feeling you get when your favorite team wins a big game.

16 teams. 16 wins. One Cup.

For the Pittsburgh Penguins, the journey to Lord Stanley's greatest prize starts with a battle against the Philadelphia Flyers. There are a million storylines heading into this game but when you get down to it, it's all about being the first team to win four games. Four wins and the series is over. Four wins and your hated rival is sent packing for the summer. Four wins and you're into the second round. Four wins and you're one step closer to the Cup and once step closer to immortality.

The Consol Energy Center could see four games against the Flyers in round one. This is the first one. The Flyers have had a lot of success in the Penguins' building so far. That doesn't matter anymore. All that matters right now is this game tonight. The Philadelphia Flyers visit the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Maybe we would have preferred another opponent, but that also doesn't matter anymore.

Right now, at this time, on this day, this is everything we've ever wanted.

Know Your Enemy: Broad Street Hockey

What they're saying:

It's been 341 days since the 2010-11 Philadelphia Flyers season ended unceremoniously in Boston. That's a really long time to chomp at the bit for some playoff hockey, but the wait finally comes to an end tonight.

And what an end. The Pittsburgh Penguins are the opponent for the third time in the last three playoff years, and despite the fact that seemingly every pundit in the world is picking the Penguins to beat the Flyers in this series, it's probably one of the closest first round matchups we've seen in a while.

Pittsburgh Penguins Notes:

Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are back in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

There was a rally for the Penguins today.

All Penguins game will be on the big screen.

Philadelphia Flyers Notes:

For Jaromir Jagr, being booed is just like neglecting his non-existent wife.

Nicklas Grossmann and Danny Briere will play tonight.

The Flyers will have "a confident, elite goaltender" in net.

If you want any Pensblog signs for whatever reason, there are some here.

Not every moment of the Stanley Cup playoffs will be pretty. Some will be brutal. Some will be depressing. Some will be downright rage-inducing. When you watch hockey, you take the lows because it makes the highs feel all that much better. And the highs are huge. They're "Malkin slapshot breakaway" huge.

Adams, Asham, Cooke, Crosby, Dupuis, Engelland, Fleury, Jeffrey, Johnson, Kennedy, Kunitz, Letang, Lovejoy, Malkin, Martin, Michalek, Neal, Niskanen, Orpik, Park, Staal, Strait, Sullivan, Tangradi and Vitale.

That's the team we're riding with from now until - if all goes well - mid-June. You may have jobbed some of those guys at some point during this season. We all have. We've all wished that someone would be traded or that someone would be benched in favor of someone else. We've all "hated" someone. That's normal. But that's over now. This is the team we have. This is the team we support. When someone with a big Penguin crest on their jersey scores a huge goal, you won't care if it's your favorite player or your most hated. You'll just care that it was a Pittsburgh Penguin. That's the playoffs.

It's a Hockey Night in Pittsburgh. Buckle up.

Do It.

Go Pens.
