More July 1 drama has occurred since the signing of Chris Mason. David Poile held a press conference Sunday afternoon to talk about the signing of Mason, the Ryan Suter situation, the Shea Weber situation and Zach Parise.

After the press conference, news broke out that fan favorite, Jordin Tootoo signed with the much hated Detroit Red Wings. The contract is three years and worth $1.9 million per year. Quotes included after the jump.

Also, Brian McGrattan tweeted out Saturday night that he has been re-signed by the Nashville Predators. The years and money were tweeted out later by Ryan Porth of Smashville 24/7 that said McGrattan was re-signed to one year deal worth $600,000.

Make that two signings made on day one of the free agency period. Read more of the opinion after the jump.

Here is the David Poile press conference from Preds TV.

David Poile seems to be getting a bit impatient with Ryan Suter's decision. Poile would like to have an answer in the next few days on whether or not he will be staying in Nashville. Otherwise, they can both move along with their off-season. I think it is a smart move by Poile because if he waits too long to hear an answer from Suter, many of the free agents he would like to sign are gone.

Poile has most likely sent an offer sheet to a few players, but most notable, Zach Parise. David didn't want to go into details, of course, but he said he did offer Parise a contract.

We should all know whether or not Suter returns Monday, according to a few reports. After his decision, the dominoes will start to fall with Parise, Carle, Semin and others being signed. Suter's decision will most likely affect Shea Weber's decision on whether or not he would like to return. Fortunately, the Predators can trade Weber and get a lot for him.

When trying to get a word with Suter's agent, Neil Sheehy, he declined to speak about the process.

Saturday night, Jordin Tootoo signed with the Detroit Red Wings, the Predators' arch-rival. The deal is three years worth $1.9 million per year. It is a pretty hefty contract for a player like Tootoo. In one signing, Jordin Tootoo turned all of Smashville against him.

Towards the end of last season and into the playoffs, Jordin Tootoo was complaining to the media about his playing time. Most likely in spite to Poile and the rest of the Preds, he signed with the most hated team in the area, the Detroit Red Wings.

It makes me cringe to see Jordin Tootoo in a Red Wings' uniform. That just can't happen. I don't think it would look good on him.

After the signing, the official Detroit Red Wings tweeted out a few quotes made by Jordin that were quite interesting. He kind of hinted at a "F U" to the Preds' organization. Here are some quotes tweeted out by @DetroitRedWings.

"It's definitely a great opportunity to put on that Red Wings jersey and play for an Original Six team. Mr. Holland made a quick phone call and I thought this was a good opportunity to win a Stanley Cup. That’s my goal right there. Today is a day for me to celebrate my new beginnings and I’m just soaking it all in.”

Red Wings fans everywhere have turned an eternal hatred against Jordin Tootoo to a gratitude and happiness of him. It is all so very interesting on why he decided to go to Detroit, of all places.

Re-signing Brian McGratton is a smart move on David Poile's side. With losing agitator, Jordin Tootoo, the Predators lack an enforcer. Instead of letting McGratton go and signing another enforcer, why not keep it in the house? It is a smart move by Poile to not mess up the chemistry in the locker room that "Big Ern" gives.

Here is his tweet, who reported it himself.

the big ern is back in smashville!!!!! — brian mcgrattan (@bigern10) July 2, 2012

We later found out the money and how long McGrattan was going to stay in Nashville. As I wrote earlier, it is a one year deal worth $600,000. It isn't a bad price for the now "fan favorite".

Also re-signed, Kevin Henderson of the ECHL's Cinncinnati Cyclones. Henderson was re-signed to a two way, one year deal worth $550,000. Here is the Press Release from the Predators. Nashville, Tenn. (July 1, 2012) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed free agent forward Kevin Henderson to a one-year, two-way contract worth $550,000 at the NHL level and $50,000 at the AHL level. Henderson, 25 (12/3/86), signed with the Predators’ ECHL affiliate, the Cincinnati Cyclones, on Feb. 1, 2012, but played just two games with the Cyclones before being loaned to Milwaukee (AHL) for the remainder of the 2011-12 season where he posted 11 points (4g-7a) in 30 regular-season games and dressed for all three of the Admirals 2012 Calder Cup Playoff contests. The 6-3, 210-pound left wing began his professional career – and played the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons – in the San Jose Sharks organization. A native of Toronto, Henderson helped the University of New Brunswick win the 2009 CIS National Championship and received 2008-09 CIS All-Canadian Honorable Mention after tying for fifth in the nation in points (19g-31a-50pts) and goals, and ranked fourth in assists and plus/minus (+31). He was teammates with current Predators Nick Spaling (2005-07) and Matt Halischuk (2006-07) with the Kitchener Rangers, tying Halischuk for the Rangers goal lead in 2006-07 (33).
