The Predators acqired enforcer Richard Clune on Waivers today. Clune was most recently with the Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliation of the Los Angeles Kings. Clune will likely spend most of his time in Milwaukee, but could make a jump up to the NHL in the need of additional grit.
Cick for More on Clune and the Predators
Clune was a mid 2005 draft pick by the Dallas Stars, taken in the third round at 71st overall. Prior to the draft he was in the OHL with the Sarnia Sting and the Barrie Colts where he had well over 100 penalty minutes in (almost) every season. He was traded to Los Angeles in 2008 for Lauri Tukonene (?). Since the trade he has spent almost all of his time in the AHL.
He did play a few minutes vs the Vancouver Canucks during the 2009-2010 playoffs, but unfortunately this attempted scrap with Rick Rypien is the most memorable moment.
If he can stay healthy, Clune will be an addition to Milwaukee in the form of Grit more than taent (He has 560 PIMs and 16 Goals since 2010.)
It's an interesting pick up by the organization, perhaps they are able to see past the surface of Clune's poor numbers.
