To the surprise of few, the Nashville Predators have found life to be very rough without goaltender Pekka Rinne in the crease. Since he has been out with a bacterial infection in his hip, the Preds have been leaking goals left right with their inexperienced goalies. SO it would make sense if GM David POile weren't at least considering the options out there to try and get the Predators through a difficult stretch and keep them in the playoff race. That reportedly has Poile in contact with Bob Murray in Anaheim about one of his myriad goalies, specifically former All-Star Jonas Hiller. According to TSN Insider Trading's Pierre LeBrun, the teams have had a some discussions. The Predators have given up a ton of goals since Pekka Rinne went down; not really a big surprise. Carter Hutton, kind of an unknown commodity, has not answered the bell so the Predators and the Anaheim Ducks, I'm told, have had discussions regarding Jonas Hiller. But what the Predators have told the ...

The official press release is below. *** Nashville, Tenn. (November 14...

Ducks send G Andersen back to AHL

The Anaheim Ducks have reassigned goalie Frederik Andersen to their AHL affiliate despite his 6-1 start to his NHL career. The NHL-leading Ducks also assigned defenseman Sami Vatanen to Norfolk on Thursday while recalling center Peter Holland and goalie Viktor Fasth. Andersen is the first NHL goalie to win the first six decisions of his career since Damian Rhodes did it for Toronto...

Rookie netminder Marek Mazanec to make first NHL start tonight

According to Josh Cooper of The Tennessean, rookie goaltender Marek Mazanec will make his first NHL start tonight. The Nashville Predators chose Mazanec with their last pick in the 2012 NHL Draft. He won a Czech Extraliga Championship last season with HC Plzen and has 5-0-0 for the Milwaukee Admirals which means he hasn’t lost a game since April 19. When two-time Vezina Trophy...

Ducks' Getzlaf nearing return

Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf is nearing a return from an upper-body injury. Getzlaf missed his third straight game Thursday night at Tampa Bay, but took part in the morning skate. After AHL scoring spree, Forsberg recalled by Nashville

It took Filip Forsberg four AHL games to show he needed to be back in the NHL. Forsberg, Nashville’s 19-year-old forward prospect, was recalled to the Predators on Thursday after scoring six points (1G, 5A) in four games with AHL Milwaukee, the club announced. Expectations were high for Forsberg coming into this season, especially after a solid showing during the exhibition campaign...

Who are the top 15 defensemen in Preds history?

The Nashville Predators are celebrating their 15 anniversary this season. So we ask: Who are the 15 best defensemen in Preds' history?

Panthers Pounce on Hapless Ducks

And so the winning streak ends for the Anaheim Ducks.   The 3-2 loss to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday was hopefully a wake up call for a team that fell asleep at the wheel and veered off course, but not before the Panthers pounced. Florida, a team dwelling at the bottom of the NHL standings, so much so that they replaced their coach a couple games ago, decided that enough...

The Fangover - Sigh... Preds drop 3rd straight

The Predators dropped their third straight in another shocking team effort that almost lasted long enough to break the franchise goaless record. Luckily a late goal by Patric Hornqvist not only prevented a new entry to the record books but also spouted a good bout of enthusiasm from the Predators, the likes of which hasn't been seen in three games.  Making his debut in nets...

Predators Player Rankings - Week 7

Four games have gone by since the last Player rankings. The first of which was an amazing 6-4 win over the very good Colorado Avalanche. That was last Wednesday. Only a week ago. Seems like forever though right? The three games to follow have been one of the worst looking stretches I've ever seen from the Preds and we almost beat our goaless streak (but were saved by Hornqvist...

Panthers break nine-game skid, beat Anaheim Ducks 3-2

Peter Horachek will cherish his first victory as head coach in the NHL — although probably not as much as the Panthers do. The Panthers ended their nine-game losing streak with an improbable 3-2 victory over Anaheim at BB&T Center on Tuesday night. The Ducks, despite the loss, still have the best record in the league as they have as many regulation losses as the Panthers...

Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne is one step closer to returning to the net

After undergoing surgery on his hip, his second one of his career, Nashville netminder Pekka Rinne appears to be on track for a recovery. He underwent a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) this week and reportedly has not had any setbacks. Both the team and the team doctors are thankful that they have identified the infection-which means now it is just a matter of recovery. Rinne...
