Coaches will often tell you that special teams can win and lose games. That was exactly the case tonight for the Nashville Predators, in a positive way, in their 3-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.“The special teams won us the game,” head coach Barry Trotz said. “A power play goal for us and a shorthanded goal – to me, that was the game in a lot of ways.”Vancouver came into the game with the NHL’s top-ranked power play, but the Preds snuffed it out with a good effort on the penalty kill midway through the game.“(The penalty kill) came up big,” Pekka Rinne said. “That was a momentum changer in the second period when we killed those two penalties. We did a great job there. … We battled hard on the penalty kill. It’s all about desperation, battle level and helping your teammates. Those were the things we were doing.”The Preds not only killed off back-to-back penalties in the second period, but they scored their fifth shorthanded goal of the season.
