When you're a father you're expected to have all of the answers all of the time. About thirty times a day one of the two oldest come up to me and invariably, with a quizzical look, begin with a 'Daddy' that has little ????? built right into it. And this is without the third one getting in on the act yet. Some of the questions require lengthy detailed answers like those about sex or the other day when the boy and I sat down for twenty minutes and talked about war of all things. Some I cannot answer and in these cases I refer them to their mother, their Poppy on his next visit or to our Great Father, the Interweb. Others are a little more straight forward - what is the capital of Belgium? Does that beer taste good? Why do you smell like marajauna? What type of wrestling were you and Mommy doing on the couch last night? Was that Greco-Roman style? Its part and parcel of this Dad thing, the questions, and you know what, I have some of my own.----------------The Oilers are ...

#9 Prospect: Tyler Pitlick

ALL scouting reports rave about Tyler Pitlick’s ability to be a physical factor in games, and many suggest he will indeed play in the NHL as a center (although he’s back on the wing of late). The great unknown–at least the great unproven–is his ability to score goals and contribute to goal scoring.Based on the monthly stats, offense is a moving target for the AHL rookie...

All Admiration, All of the Time For Smyth

If you were to ask most Oiler fans who their favourite Oiler is, you will likely hear the name Ryan Smyth. If you also ask who they think the team MVP is the answer would likely be the same; Ryan Smyth. In Edmonton people love Ryan Smyth the way Canucks fans love Trevor Linden and Leafs’ fans love Wendel Clark. Although Ryan Smyth has only been invited to one NHL All Stars game...

Klefbom Named to 2012 IIHF U20 Team Sweden

Edmonton Oilers’ Swedish prospect Oscar Klefbom has had a less than ideal season so far. In September Klefbom suffered a cut to his thigh and subsequently a leg infection. Most recently, Klefbom suffered a concussion. Recently however, November 24th, Klefbom was able to return to his Swedish Elite Team (SEL) Färjestad BK. Should Klefbom remain healthy for the next month, we will...

Memory Lane Monday: Anson Carter

For anyone that can’t remember Anson Carter, shame on you. How can you not recognize a black man on a hockey team (no racism intended, it’s just a fact). It’s like identifying Scal on a basketball team. They both stick out so blatantly to anybody watching on TV or at the game. Okay, now that I’m finished with my rant, I can finally talk about Carter’s NHL career. Carter...

G27 Flames at Oilers

Ryan Jones had a night to remember last night, as he was a major player in a big third period comeback for the Edmonton Oilers. Jones has 8 goals currently, tied for 53rd in the NHL. I can show these numbers aren't sustainable, but what is? Entering this NHL season, Jones had scored 33 NHL goals on 251 shots. That's 13.5 per cent, which is an excellent total. Not Craig Simpson...

Oilers 6, Blue Jackets 3

Ryan Jones scored his first career hat trick and the Edmonton Oilers snapped a three-game losing skid with a 6-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night. Jordan Eberle, Ales Hemsky and Ladislav Smid also scored for the Oilers, who improved to 8-3-2 at home. Derek Dorsett had a pair of goals and Mark Letestu also scored as the Blue Jackets lost their third in four...

Prospect #8: Curtis Hamilton

Curtis Hamilton reminds me of the Montreal Canadiens of my youth. While my favorite team (Boston Bruins) would draft guys like Mike Bloom and Al Secord (basically Lucic types), the Habs would select a bunch of "two-way" forwards and a "checker" or two. Curtis Hamilton is a "Hab-type" prospect right from the Del Wilson playbook. Winter 2011: #8Summer...

Klefbom Named to Team Sweden

There was a time when Oiler fans could see the club's very best teenagers at the World Junior Championships. This year the best U20 plays at Rexall with the big club, but there are a few gems still available for the WJ's. Oscar Klefbom is the headliner.I got the news from Guy Flaming over at Coming Down the Pipe yesterday afternoon. As you know, Oscar Klefbom has been struggling...

Who is the NHL’s sophomore of the year?

Not unlike the Hamburglar with a plateful of hamburgers, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is running away with the Calder. The 18-year-old boasts 11 goals and 17 assists through his first 26 games, tops among rookies and fifth among, you know, everyone. He's received NHL rookie of the month honours for both October and November, and looks poised to clean up Advent as well. Most importantly...
