The Rangers fell tonight to the Pittsburgh Penguins by the score of 2-1 in a shootout. For a box score, click here. Three points out of four in the home and home against Pittsburgh? Sign me up!! Still, tough luck loss tonight, Rangers absolutely deserved to win. Only Fleury prevented tonight's game, especially in the third period, from turning tonight into a repeat of something resembling Wednesday's 6-1 stomping. If they keep playing like this, they shouldn't have any problems making the playoffs. After all, it's a great sign the Rangers are beginning to warm up just as the weather begins to warm up. Nice job by the Rangers weathering the early Pittsburgh storm which was to be expected. Even more impressive was the Rangers were able to tilt the ice back towards Fleury's net which resulted in 13 NYR shots with a few good chances in that first period and the puck possession dominance stayed that way for the majority of the game. Clowe fought a Pen one game too late, would've loved to see a Gordie to go along with his epic game from Wednesday. Good job by the Rangers to not become "paralyzed" as Torts likes to say following Pittsburgh's quick goal to start the third. Not sure the Rangers of prior games this season would've been able to salvage a point against a top notch team like Pittsburgh. Is it me or when something goes against Pittsburgh, their guys love to try to take some cheap shots against foes... that Dupuis flying elbow into Del Zotto just after the icing? I'm not sure I would be able to count how many games Dupuis would've been suspended on one hand. If that elbow connected.... Everything about the Del Zotto elbow into Neal was unintentional. You have to be a moron, or a Pens kool-aid drinker to say otherwise.  Hopefully he's ok, because I want Pittsburgh at full strength for the postseason. Stepan was brutal in the circle tonight going 7-28, but only one of those mattered. Big faceoff win and a clutch shot by Nash that trickled over the line. Had to be a feel good goal immediately following Dupuis' attempted cheap shot that landed him in the box and Brassard's shot that was probably in, but was ruled no goal. I was concerned that Pittsburgh was going to get the Malkin line out against Eminger and Moore as much as they could. Outside of Eminger dumping Cooke in front of the Ranger bench in the first period, they were barely noticed. All good signs coming from your bottom pairing d-men. Eminger had 13:01 TOI and Moore had 10:06 TOI. Important if you don't want to burn out McDonagh and Girardi as was the case last season. Nice antics by Cooke in front of the Ranger bench, he's definitely changed his ways... Hank post-game mentioned tweaking his hamstring in the shootout, but said he was ok. Still something to keep an eye on but sure to cause mass panic if he doesn't play tomorrow night against Carolina. Follow me on twitter: @NYRblogneill Email me: c1rcaiff27@comcast.net
