The New York Rangers have assigned forward Erik Christensen to the Connecticut Whale of the AHL for a conditioning stint, according to ESPN. Christensen's last game played was on December 17 in Phoenix, as he's been a healthy scratch in every game since then. The 28-year-old Edmonton native has recorded a goal and four assists in 20 games for the Rangers this season.

For the past few days, it's been rumored that the coaching staff has discussed what's best for Christensen, and also Wojtek Wolski, with the current lineup playing so well and not needing any sort of change. With that it was expected that both players would be assigned to the AHL at some point, so that's where we are at today. However, there's still no word on the status of Wojtek Wolski at this time.

Personally, I've never been a fan of Christensen because when he is not scoring, which is most of the time, he serves no other purpose in the lineup for New York. He's not physical, he's not gritty and he doesn't exactly fill a leadership role either.

In my eyes, he's finally where he belonged since day one of the season; Connecticut.

When you're leading the National Hockey League with a 26-9-4 record on the season and have won your past four games, it is easy to lose focus and forget what's gotten you there. Dan Girardi Should be an All-Star

The National Hockey League will be announcing the remaining participants for the 2012 All-Star weekend in Ottawa later today. Morning Skate Notes: Hank In; Same Line-up; Stepan's Play Dips

Tortorella pre-game

John Tortorella spoke about Stu Bickel’s play, about the need for Brian Boyle (and other third- and fourth-line players to score some goals), about moving Dan Girardi to the point on the PP (right-handed shot), and about the possibility that Wojtek Wolski and Erik Christensen go to Hartford for conditioning assignments … Here’s the audio:

Free Sean Avery! But not before he plays on pink ice this weekend in AHL

The New York Rangers' divisive pest Sean Avery continues to toil with the Connecticut Whale of the AHL, despite two NHL teams requesting his services via re-entry waivers according to Larry Brooks of the New York Post. Ah, therein lies the problem: The Rangers would carry about $2 million in dead cap space for the rest of the season if Avery's claimed by another team. The...
