New York Rangers captain Ryan Callahan will miss four to six weeks after spraining his left knee midway through the first period of a 4-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night. Callahan left the ice seconds after initiating contact in the offensive-zone corner with Nashville defenseman Victor Bartley during his fourth shift of the night. He did not return, and the Rangers announced after the game that Callahan suffered a Grade 2 sprain of his medial collateral ligament.

Free agency is still months away, but the Rangers will have some tough decisions to make

Ryan Callahan’s injury woes are concerning, but New York will still likely do everything it can to keep its captain Quick note: Dave was at the game last night, so the goal breakdown will be done for the afternoon post. The Rangers’ season is quickly spiraling out of control and it’s probably a matter of time before GM Glen Sather steps in and makes a major shakeup.  But with...

Rangers captain Ryan Callahan out with knee sprain

New York Rangers captain Ryan Callahan has left the game against the Nashville Predators midway through the first period because of a knee sprain. He was checked by Predators defenseman Victor Bartley, who swung around and kicked Callahan's left leg into the boards on Tuesday night. Callahan was in pain on the bench and then went toward the dressing room 10:54 into the period...

Rangers recall Dylan McIlrath

In some surprising news, the Rangers have recalled defenseman Dylan McIlrath. McIlrath is everything the Rangers need at the moment: a right handed physical defenseman.  This is a move that a lot of people wanted, but we at BSB speculated might be a bit of a rush move since most reports are that McIlrath is not ready at the moment. The move signals a few things. First is that a...

Dorsett back on the ice, Staal still out

Per Steve Zipay, Derek Dorsett (wrist) was back on the ice for this morning’s skate. Dorsett has been nursing this wrist issue for a while, and the Rangers could really use his spunk back in the lineup. Marc Staal was not on the ice, as expected. He is suffering from “issues” that may or may not be concussion related. The team is calling it a neck issue for now. Tweet

Brassard out for Rangers tonight, McIlrath to make NHL debut

The New York Rangers will be sporting a new look tonight when they host Columbus at MSG. Center Derick Brassard will miss his first game of the season — with a “sore posterior,” according to head coach Alain Vigneault — while rookie defenseman Dylan McIlrath will make his NHL debut. McIlrath, 21, was the club’s first-round pick (1oth overall) at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft...

Game 32: Please show up against Nashville

Photo by John Russell/NHLI via Getty Images Following a frustrating loss against Washington, the Rangers shook things up in their lineup. In need of grit, the team recalled Arron Asham. Alain Vigneault also (finally) benched both Benoit Pouliot and Taylor Pyatt in favor of Asham, Derek Dorsett (returning from injury), and Dominic Moore (returning after being scratched). A spark is...

Rangers’ Marc Staal diagnosed with concussion

During a game against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, Rangers defenseman Marc Staal took a hard shot in the third period and left the game not to return. Today, New York’s fears were realized when Staal was confirmed by head coach Alain Vigneault to have suffered another concussion. Luckily for Staal, the doctors are optimistic that this concussion isn’t as severe as his...

How Tortorella Has Changed The Canucks

One of the more interesting moves over the summer was when the New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks effectively traded coaches.  Both teams got rid of their old coach - Alain Vigneault in Vancouver and John Tortorella with the Rangers.  They then hired each other's former coach.  It was largely seen as a lateral move in terms of coaching tactics and both coaches tended...

Unlikely scorer Clune leads Predators to win over Rangers

Nick Spaling and Rich Clune scored first-period goals, and seldom-used backup Carter Hutton made 28 saves as the Nashville Predators snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the New York Rangers 4-1 on Tuesday night. Hutton (5-3-1) made his first start since Nov. 10 and his third appearance in that span as the Predators try to get by while Pekka Rinne (hip) is out. Marek Mazanec...

The New York Rangers Need To Find Their Game

from Larry Brooks of the New York Post, “I’m not quite sure we have the personnel to play the type of game I’d like to play, which is more offensive-oriented,” the new coach said after the Blueshirts had been limited to one goal (or less) for the 12th time in 32 games. “It’s a challenge scoring goals — I’m not saying we won’t get there — but right now it’s...

New York Rangers: Excuses building as offense continues to lack

By Kristin Tullo (@K_Tullo) Getty Images The excuses seemed legitimate as the New York Rangers began the 2013-2014 campaign with one win in their first five contests. They had a stretch of games that kept them on the road from preseason all the way until the end of October. They had injuries that had some of their heart and soul players sidelined. They also had a new head coach that...

Dirty hits and their impact on the league

Suit’s post yesterday was spot on about the need for grit, not goons, on this Rangers team. Though the Rangers need grit, the goons have been out in full force this past weekend in the NHL. For as long as I can remember being a fan, the debate of banning fighting has been around, but that’s not what we’ve seen this past weekend; we’ve seen extremely dangerous and unsportsmanlike...

King’s Ransom: The Price of Doing Business Under the New CBA

By: Ryan Kiray (@RyanK_THG) Getty Images The Rangers signed star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to a 7-year contract extension on December 4, ensuring that their franchise netminder would remain in New York for as long as the Rangers wished to continue to employ him. Reaction to the contract was mixed, with some rejoicing that Lundqvist, arguably the league’s best netminder, would...
