While the New York Rangers have already clinched the top spot in both the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference, the team still has two games left against two solid hockey clubs. Tonight, the Blueshirts will be in Pittsburgh to take on Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. While the game has little significance for both clubs, it should still end up being a good hockey game between two clubs that are looking to get their game in order before the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin next week. It will be interesting to see who the Rangers go with in goal as starting netminder Henrik Lundqvist has a bruised right arm after hurting it against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. After the game, he said he had trouble gripping the stick so if I am the Blueshirts, I would not hesitate to start back-up goaltender Martin Biron tonight. Against the Penguins tonight, the Rangers should focus on shutting down both Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Going into the playoffs, the Penguins will more...

Malkin and Crosby “dirtiest players” according to Flyers assistant coach

The aftermath of the fight between the Flyers and the Penguins is almost worse than the actual fight.  There has been constant talk from both sides since Sunday, and even some people not involved with the organizations.  Let’s review and then we’ll get to the new stuff from today. First there was the fight on Sunday, and if you haven’t seen it a million times already, you...

Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin Are Penguins' Dirtiest Players, According to Flyers Assistant Coach

There's no arguing that Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are the two best players on the Pittsburgh Penguins. They're two of the best players in the world, let alone Pittsburgh. However, would you also label the dynamic duo the Pens' dirtiest players as well? One rival assistant coach would. Philadelphia Flyers assistant coach Craig Berube stoked the flames of one of the...

Crosby's two goals power Penguins

Sidney Crosby had two goals and an assist, James Neal scored the go-ahead goal on a power play, and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Boston Bruins 5-3 on Tuesday night. In Pittsburgh's first game since a late brawl Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers, Crosby gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead 7:41 in. He made it 4-2 with 1:11 left in the second period with his club's second...

Crosby Calls Out Callahan, Expects Torts to Apologize

War has been declared.  It was expected that the Pittsburgh Penguins would retaliate the first chance they got after Rangers head coach John Tortorella lashed out against them following last night's game, calling them an "arrogant" organization and referencing Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin as "whining stars".  But the actual retaliation, which came...

Crosby Calls Callahan a Whiner?!?!?!?

In his post practice press conference today, Sidney Crosby said this about John Tortorella calling him a whiner..."I don't know what he's talking about. I mean, if you want you can put a camera on us all game, put a camera on (Ryan Callahan) all game. You'll see who's over there more. He should worry about his own players."...Is he effin kidding me? Absolutely...

Bloom’s Blog: News From Around the League

Sidney Crosby’s return has apparently been worth the wait. Crosby has 25 points in 15 games, a point-per-game ratio of 1.666, his best ratio in his career. But why has Crosby’s return been so successful? Several responds to his dominance have been that the amount of time that the Penguins staff and doctors took with him really helped him be just as good, if not better, than he...

Bruins Fans Worry About Johnny Boychuk as 'Mr. Irrelevant' Sidney Crosby Leads Penguins to Meaningless Win (Video)

Tuesday night's game wasn't supposed to matter for the Bruins, since they're locked into the No. 2 spot in the Eastern Conference for the playoffs. When Johnny Boychuck went down with an injury, however, things got real in a hurry. The Bruins lost the game and potentially more when Boychuck collided with Arron Asham and left the game with a lower-body injury. Obviously...

Highest Scoring Team

In February, I wrote about how the Philadelphia Flyers were the highest scoring team in the league.  They will not finish the season in that position.  The Pittsburgh Penguins have taken over that spot.  It is no surprise that this happened after Sidney Crosby returned from injury.  With Crosby in the lineup, the Penguins have the two highest scoring players in the league in...

Milbury apologizes for comments on Crosby, Bylsma

NHL analyst Mike Milbury issued an apology after lashing out at Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby and coach Dan Bylsma. "I reached out to (team president) David Morehouse and the Penguins about the comments I made yesterday on Philadelphia radio." Milbury said in a statement. "In hindsight, I realize what I said was inappropriate and wrong, and I want to...

Penguins 5, Bruins 3

Sidney Crosby had two goals and an assist, James Neal scored the go-ahead goal on a power play, and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Boston Bruins 5-3 on Tuesday night. In Pittsburgh's first game since a late brawl Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers, Crosby gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead 7:41 in. He made it 4-2 with 1:11 left in the second period with his club's second...

Link City: Milbury apologizes; Penguins not happy

Mike Milbury formally apologized to the Penguins for his comments yesterday. [Puck Daddy] "I reached out to David Morehouse and the Penguins about the comments I made yesterday on Philadelphia radio. In hindsight, I realize what I said was inappropriate and wrong, and I want to apologize to the Penguins organization and their fans." Shero and Crosby...

The Penguins, the Playoffs, and You (or: "Boy are We Glad We're Not Playing the Rangers in the First Round")

We're feeling very wordy today, so we'd like to start this post with an eloquent little quip, something that really sets the tone for the quality of writing you can expect from us moving forward: Screw you, Rangers. Yesterday marked two full days since Sunday's WWE event at the Consol Energy Center, yet there was still a ton of fresh news about the festivities coming...

Link City: Berube mouths off

Flyers assistant coach, Craig Berube, thinks that Malkin and Crosby are the two dirtiest players on the Penguins. [PHT] Berube knows a thing or two about being a dirt ball, he once punched a referee in the face: Peter Laviolette and the Flyers can no longer look forward to having ribs from a West Virginia restaurant after games in Pittsburgh.  The owner, a...

The Program’s Fantasy All Stars

As promised earlier, here is Chris Wassel’s list of fantasy all stars. He has also included some top rookies, “vintage wines”, and a second all-star team in addition to the first all-star team. You can find Chris’ work on both fantasy hockey and general interest hockey on his site, The Program. Six months ago, fantasy hockey players started on a journey that would be filled...

Treehouse Of Season Enders Part 1A: The All-Stars

Six months ago, fantasy hockey players started on a journey that would be filled with many highs and lows. There have been a lot of injuries and some very significant ones at that. We saw Sidney Crosby go down a couple times this year and miss quite a big chunk of time. Then there was the likely career ending concussion to Chris Pronger. It has been a tough year to gauge the top...
