We haven't heard Sean Avery's name in a while, which, in a way, is a good thing considering how much of a distraction the saga between him and the New York Rangers can become. Avery was last assigned to the Connecticut Whale of the AHL back on December 31, and since then we've heard all sorts of reports including one that claimed Sean was being scratched due to disciplinary reasons after he apparently spit on a member of the coaching staff. The validity of that rumor is still unknown, but whether saliva was exchanged or not, there's no doubt that there's been come conflict between Sean and the team down in Connecticut.  I was always a supporter of Avery's throughout his career as a Ranger, but as we've spent countless hours discussing, he will never again see a roster spot in the NHL as a member of this hockey club as long as John Tortorella is the head coach. It is clear that their personal relationship has gotten in the way of their professional one, ...

Dealing with the real world

Somewhere New York Ranger GM Glen Sather is looking at all the reported rumors about what he's going to do before the NHL trade deadline and having a pretty good laugh. We can say that because we have to wonder who exactly is spreading the information from the Ranger side. Glen Sather will talk to you about golf, fishing, what was like to be in Europe before the Iron Curtain...

The Latest on Rick Nash

Via Mark Spector, talks between the Rangers and Blue Jackets regarding Rick Nash have “advanced.” The reported package includes one of Ryan McDonagh or Michael Del Zotto, a prospect (apparently Tim Erixon), and a first round pick. The Rangers believe this offer gives them the edge over the Maple Leafs, and I would sure hope it would. That’s a serious haul. As Dave said on Twitter...

Surreal Time for TheNYRBlog

I've done some pretty amazing things since creating The New York Rangers Blog, including raising $7,000 in memory of Derek Boogaard and making a serious run at getting Sean Avery into the All Star Game. But every once in a while something happens that gives me a moment of pause and that happened this morning.I opened up the Wall Street Journal and there it was, a quote of mine...

Rangers’ Tortorella stresses consistency

As the Rangers’ boat begins to sway in the heavy waves of the playoff run, coach John Tortorella is hearing creaks in the wood and he doesn’t like it. “It’s important this time of year for your mindset to be right there,” Tortorella said after yesterday’s crisp...

'Shirts dump Wolski, have cap cushion for Nash or another deal

The Rangers didn’t need any more Nash Cash, since the inclusion of a player such as Brandon Dubinsky in a potential trade for Columbus’ Rick Nash would free the requisite cap space. But they still created a cushion by dealing seldom-used winger Wojtek Wolski to the Florida Panthers on Saturday afternoon.

Sabres-Rangers Preview

The last time the New York Rangers and the Buffalo Sabres met, Henrik Lundqvist outlasted Ryan Miller in a dazzling display of goaltending. The All-Star netminders will likely be starting opposite each other again Saturday night when the Rangers try to beat the Sabres for the third time this season in their first matchup at Madison Square Garden. New York (38-15-6) edged Buffalo...
