Yesterday, the Rangers acquired defenseman Danny Syvret from Philadelphia in exchange for forward Kris Newbury.
The 5' 11" Syvret, 28, registered six goals and 34 assists for 40 points, along with 34 penalty minutes in 76 games last season with the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Adirondack Phantoms. He led the Phantoms in assists, ranked second in points, tied for third in power play goals (five), and tied for first among team defensemen in goals. He also led Adirondack with a career-high, 194 shots on goal. Syvret finished the season among the league leaders in scoring by defensemen, ranking seventh in points and tying for third in assists.
...i liked Newbury. He was a tough, grinding forward who always stuck up for a teammate, plus he somehow brought out the best in Kreider with the Whale. But he had no future with guys like Asham and Dorsett on the roster.
