COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Detroit Red Wings were humbled on Saturday, leaving them desperate for a win Monday night in Columbus. It wasn't pretty, and it wasn't easy. But Damien Brunner's goal in the fourth round of a shootout allowed the Red Wings to escape sold-out Nationwide Arena with a 4-3 victory over the Blue Jackets. Brunner, appearing in just his second NHL game, crammed the puck between the right pad of Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and the post. The goal was briefly reviewed, but allowed to stand. The Red Wings, who suffered a 6-0 season-opening loss to St. Louis on Saturday, came out flying. Pavel Datsyuk, Brian Lashoff and Ian White also scored for the Red Wings, while Jimmy Howard had 30 saves and did not allow a goal in the four-round shootout. The Blue Jackets came back from a 2-0 deficit with goals by Cam Atkinson, James Wisniewski and Vinny Prospal, but couldn't hold a 3-2 lead. Off the opening faceoff, Red Wings winger Jordin Too...

Question of the Week: If Red Wings Struggle, Should Ken Holland’s Job be on the Line?

The Detroit Red Wings got their 2013 season off to the roughest start possible on Saturday, losing 6-0 to the St. Louis Blues while only firing 14 shots on goal. It was the most frustrating season opener recently for the Red Wings, who for the first time in recent memory, might finally appear headed for their version of hockey’s rebuilding stage. This has been helped along especially...

Detroit Red Wings’ Niklas Kronwall the Center of Attention in Lidstrom’s Absence

With the perfect human, Nicklas Lidstrom, finally hanging up his skates, it’s time for the Detroit Red Wings’s Niklas Kronwall to show they will not miss him. No spotlight will be brighter than the one shining on Niklas Kronwall now as the Wings head into a shortened season. He...
