Found March 09, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
The Detroit Red Wings begin the second half of their 48-games-in-99-nights demolition derby with a pair of games against the Columbus Blue Jackets today (2 PM EST, FSD/FS Ohio/97.1 FM) and tomorrow (5 PM EDT--yeah, spring forward, bleh--FSD/FS Ohio/AM 1270), and the Wings spent Friday's post-practice media availability suggesting that, all things considered, they're happy with the way the 2013 season's gone thus far. Heading into game 25, the Wings possess a 12-8-and-4 record--essentially, they're at .500--and their 28 points are good for 4th in the Western Conference, likely the highest spot they can possibly finish given the Chicago Blackhawks' first-half record. For all the Wings' dominant play of late, Thursday's 3-0 win over Edmonton and Tuesday's 2-1 win over Colorado included, the Wings flew to Columbus separated from the 15th-place Blue Jackets by all of 8 points, and the 9th and 10th-place Phoenix Coyotes and Nashville Predators have 25 p...

Jordin Tootoo Fights Edmonton’s Mike Brown: Video

Jordin Tootoo has more or less held his own in numerous fights this season. He certainly did not get the best of Edmonton’s Mike Brown on Thursday night, though, when Brown and Tootoo mixed it up early in the second period of the Detroit Red Wings’ 3-0 win. Brown checked Tootoo as the Wings’ forward cleared the puck, then turned back and issued the fight challenge. Tootoo landed...

Kindl, Emmerton score in Wings shutout win

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings have some excellent hockey players but they don't have a Steven Stamkos or a Sidney Crosby. You don't get those players when you don't have the No. 1 overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft, which the Wings haven't had because they've made the playoffs 21 straight seasons. Crosby and Stamkos currently lead the league in scoring....

Red Wings’ Niklas Kronwall tells Craig Custance why the NHLPA accepted NHL’s realignment proposal

Very interesting stuff: Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall spoke to ESPN's Craig Custance for an ESPN Insider blog entry, and the Red Wings' NHLPA player representative told Custance that the NHL provided the PA with multiple mock schedules which illustrated the travel teams would have to face, satisfying the players at least to the point that they chose to consent to the...

Red Wings vs Blue Jacket Recap: 3.9.2013

Red Wings didn't give much effort today and fell to the Blue Jacket 3-0. This is the first time in the history of ever that Columbus won a season series against the Wings and they deserved it. We're missing a bunch of guys that probably shouldn't be on the team anyways (minus Helm, of course) and they're missing a few of their best players but still destroyed us....

Kristen Bell is a big Detroit Red Wings fan (pictures)

There’s little doubt that, when it comes to adorability, Mega Detroit Red Wings fan Kristen Bell gives just about every actress in Hollywood a run for their money. Besides being one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood, with roles in movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek, Ms. Bell rose to fame and garnered critical praise as the title role on...

Vinny Prospal tells Justin Abdelkader to check the Scoreboard

With 5:54 left in the third period Columbus Blue Jackets forward Vinny Prospal and Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader got into a bit of a shoving match.  As they were separated, Prospal pointed to the scoreboard to let Abdelkader know that the Blue Jackets were up 3-0, in case he had forgotten.  The scoreboard point earned Prospal a 10-minute misconduct which seems extreme...

Red Wings-Oilers wrap-up: at the halfway point, Wings find grit, secondary scoring and defense

"What a difference a couple of days make" might be the theme of this abbreviated 48-games-in-99-nights season, and the Red Wings have certainly learned as much. After dropping 5 straight games, the Wings have won five of their past seven games, including a 2-1 win over Colorado on Tuesday and Thursday night's 2-0 win over Edmonton. With 24 games in the books, the...

0-for-36 Should Say Enough

Detroit fans probably have that number embedded in their brains by now... from Anshar Khan of Mlive, The Detroit Red Wings play 14 of their final 23 games on the road and need to win a fair share of them to get into the playoffs. They're going to need a contribution from their power play. They haven't gotten it yet. Following Saturday's 3-0 loss at Columbus...

Red Wings-Blue Jackets Preview

The Detroit Red Wings are starting to play better. Surprisingly, so are the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets have won a season-high three straight and have enjoyed success this season against the Red Wings heading into Saturday's matchup in Columbus. These Central Division rivals complete their season series this weekend with a home-and-home set, with Sunday's rematch...

Rapping Red Wings: Detroit Knows Blackhawks’ Streak Doesn’t Ensure Playoff Success

Peaking early. It’s one of the biggest dangers in sports, especially during the regular season. Remarkably, the Chicago Blackhawks haven’t tasted hockey adversity in three months, and naturally, they’re getting all the best headlines. But this is March, and despite all the fluff you’ve been reading and seeing on television, it dosen’t mean the Blackhawks are guaranteed...

Red Wings Friday practice post in progress: lineup changes unlikely, Gustavsson starting, Fil out

Updated w/ confirmation of no lineup tweaks at 1:29 PM: The Red Wings are back on the ice at Joe Louis Arena following their 2-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers last night, and MLive's Ansar Khan reports that all is...predictable, all ahead of the Wings' slate of back-to-back matinees against Blue Jackets (who've won 3 in a row, including a 2-1 OT win over Colorado, a 4...

GDT - Game 26: Red Wings (12-9-4) host Blue Jackets (9-12-4) 5:00

Yesterdays tilt with the BJ's was a gawd-awful mess.  Really, how does a man get abused by BJ's?  Uncle Mike obviously doesn't know either, as this is the second occurance of the sky falling:   “I thought we were bad,'' Babcock said. “Why was that? Was that mental prep? Was that the coach never got any messages across? Lack of preparation? Did we practice...

GDT - Game 25: Red Wings (12-8-4) at Blue Jackets (8-12-4) 2:00

Half way there, and DET are sitting in 4th. After the start to this season, who'd a thunk it?  That is the good news anyways.  In the crosstown traffic that is the WC, the Wings are only 4 points from 11th position. The problematic bit is that DET are the road warrior the rest of the month;  8 road games versus just 3 at home.  April is a little better, 7 road, 6 at JLA. ...
