DETROIT -- Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson appears to be ready to remain a Red Wing for a while. During Tuesday night's game, TSN's Bob McKenzie tweeted that Ericsson was on the verge of signing an extension for four or five years in the range of 4 million a year. After the 2-0 loss to Nashville, Wings general manager would not confirm a deal, but said the two sides were talking. "Could be (Wednesday), yeah," Ericsson said. "It would be great to get that done. Theyve been talking back and forth, seems like were coming really close. That feels good." Ericsson, 29, is part of the Wings' top defense pair with Niklas Kronwall and was set to be an unrestricted free agent July 1. "I feel like Ive found a good role they want me to play in that I really feel comfortable in and really like," Ericsson said. "Im so happy to be here. "This is the team I want to play for, no other team. If we can get things done now that would be awesome. I couldnt be happier if it gets done." Ericsson would only say that the term that they're talking about is more than three years.

Red Wings are close to deal with Jonathan Ericsson

There was at least one bit of positive news for the Red Wings Tuesday despite a discouraging 2-0 loss to Nashville. Bob McKenzie of TSN in Canada was first to report the Red Wings are close to signing defenseman Jonathan Ericsson to a new contract. Ericsson, 29, can be an unrestricted free agent this summer. A source confirmed the sides are getting close to an agreement. McKenzie...

Zetterberg says Red Wings playing like robots, need to relax

The Detroit Red Wings look robotic, players are squeezing their sticks too tightly and not enjoying themselves. Those were captain Henrik Zetterberg’s observations after yet another loss, 2-0 Tuesday to the Nashville Predators at Joe Louis Arena. The Red Wings are winless in seven (0-2-5), their longest slide since their final seven games of 2001-02 (0-3-2-2, W-L-T-OTL). They...

Red Wings' Danny DeKeyser out at least 3, 4 weeks

The Detroit Red Wings have taken a big hit on their blue line. Detroit defenseman Danny DeKeyser is expected to be out for at least three to four weeks with a separated left shoulder. Red Wings-Predators quick take: boos were deserved but it’s on ‘this team’ to figure s*** out

I don't "like our team." Quite frankly, being a Red Wings fan, never mind spending the amount of time that I do covering an 0-and-7 team that's now 0-and-8 at home, this job sucks right now and my team sucks right now. I'm frustrated as all hell get out because the Wings' disparate parts are not working together. As I've said previously--and even given...

Red Wings turn to Gustav Nyquist for offensive help

The Red Wings hope forward Gustav Nyquist can help a struggling lineup. With defenseman Danny DeKeyser (shoulder) on the long-term injured list, the team down a forward, and the offense struggling, Nyquist will be recalled from Grand Rapids. The Red Wings recalled forward Trevor Parkes Wednesday as a paper move, and will recall Nyquist Thursday morning. Nyquist ($950,000 NHL salary...

Red Wings-Predators set-up and overnight report: the Wings *should* be able to pounce on the Preds

The Detroit Red Wings' six-game winless streak provoked the following comment from TSN's Scott Cullen in his latest set of power rankings: This Week 16 Last Week17 Detroit Red Wings 9-5-7 Winless in six sounds worse than it really is, since the Wings have accumulated points in five of those six games, but a seven-game home winless streak is a problem for a team that...

Hurricanes-Red Wings Preview

Coach Mike Babcock wants the Detroit Red Wings to relax, particularly at home. That hasn't been a problem when the Carolina Hurricanes come to town. The Red Wings will try to heed Babcock's advice and avoid their longest stretch at home without a win in nearly 28 years Thursday night. Detroit (9-6-7) has dropped eight in a row on its own ice (0-2-6), putting the team on...
