Found September 12, 2012 on The Majors Detroit:
In light of the Carlo Colaiacovo talk, the Wings are also close to signing forward Justin Abdelkader to a four-year contract. This is per Ansar Khan of “I anticipate we’ll get something done before Saturday,” Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said. “We’re down to the short strokes. We’ve been close for a few days, just finalizing some things.” Holland later confirmed that the deal will be for four years which will ultimately carry over into two years of Abdelkader being eligible for unrestricted free agency. Abdelkader recently made it known that he’d like a deal to be finalized by Thursday as NHL teams and players scramble to get contracts worked out before the current collective bargaining agreement expires on September 15tn. The 25-year-old Abdelkader made $825,000 last season and could make as much as $1.7 million a season under his new contract. Abdelkader has also expressed an interest in playing overseas during a potential lockout. He however did mention, “When...

Red Wings sign Abdelkader, Colaiacovo

The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed forward Justin Abdelkader to a four-year, $7.2 million contract and signed defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo to a two-year, $5 million deal. The 25-year-old Abdelkader had eight goals and 14 assists in 81 games last season for Detroit. He's played 209 games for the Red Wings over the last five seasons. The 29-year-old Colaiacovo was a free agent...

Red Wings afternoon news: preparing for a lockout and Abdelkader/Colaiacovo contract talk

It's definitely a strange day for the Red Wings' players. Carlo Colaiacovo made his first visit to Detroit to sign his contract, Justin Abdelkader was signed to a contract extension, and then the Wings' palyers engaged in their last practice at Joe Louis Arena before packing up their ice, watching or at least hearing the ice disappear and then packing up their gear, with...

Red Wings overnight report: talking about the lockout, player mobility and keggers

If the Red Wings do sign Justin Abdelkader to a 4-year contract extension today, or Ken Holland closes a deal with as-yet-unsigned UFA target Carlo Colaiacovo prior to this weekend, he will do so in the most awkward of circumstances. One of the most player-friendly GM's in the game from one of the league's supposedly players-as-family-oriented organizations is in fact attending...

Done and done by Ken Holland: Red Wings re-sign Justin Abdelkader, sign Carlo Colaiacovo

Via RedWingsFeed, I'm sure the signings of these actual contacts will be quite awkward given that Ken Holland voted on behalf of the Red Wings to lock the following two players out, and aside from informally assigning Brendan Smith, Gustav Nyquist and Damien Brunner to Grand Rapids, MLive's Ansar Khan notes that the Red Wings made some final personnel moves on Thursday night...

With the NHL lockout just hours away and after missing out on bigger name defensemen like Ryan Suter and Shea Weber, the Wings made a very solid signing Friday agreeing to terms with Carlo Colaiacovo on a two-year deal worth $5 million. “It’s a great feeling,” Colaiacovo said today. “It’s the place, from day one, where I wanted to be. It’s Hockeytown; it’s the Detroit...
