In light of the Carlo Colaiacovo talk, the Wings are also close to signing forward Justin Abdelkader to a four-year contract. This is per Ansar Khan of Mlive.com.
“I anticipate we’ll get something done before Saturday,” Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said. “We’re down to the short strokes. We’ve been close for a few days, just finalizing some things.”
Holland later confirmed that the deal will be for four years which will ultimately carry over into two years of Abdelkader being eligible for unrestricted free agency.
Abdelkader recently made it known that he’d like a deal to be finalized by Thursday as NHL teams and players scramble to get contracts worked out before the current collective bargaining agreement expires on September 15tn.
The 25-year-old Abdelkader made $825,000 last season and could make as much as $1.7 million a season under his new contract. Abdelkader has also expressed an interest in playing overseas during a potential lockout. He however did mention, “When...
