It was quite the long weekend for Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson. He felt the pain of a shoulder subluxation and the joys of fatherhood. Ericsson is out two-to-three weeks due to the injury sustained during the third period of Saturday’s 5-2 loss in Phoenix. It will give him more time to spend with his newborn daughter Liv. Ericsson’s fiancé gave birth Monday morning. “Timing was awesome’’ Ericsson said. “Evelina’s water broke 30 or 40 minutes before we planned in Detroit. Just made it home to bring her to the hospital and everything is just history from there.” The seven-pound seven-ounce girl was named in honor of Ericsson’s late friend Stefan Liv the former Red Wings goaltending prospect who died in the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plane crash in Russia on Sept. 7 2011. “We liked the name but also it has some history with our very good friend Stefan Liv’’ Ericsson said. “So it’s kind of in honor of him too. “He was a good friend and a guy that I really respected a lot. We really liked the name and then when it has the meaning too it even felt better. It just came natural.” Ericsson said surgery has been ruled out for now. The Red Wings placed him on short-term injured reserve (minimum seven days). It frees a roster spot but does not provide salary-cap relief. “The play kind of ended in front of our net and the whistle blew but I kind of bumped into someone’’ Ericsson said. “I was relaxed with my arm so that’s how it happened. “It felt bad right away but then after the game we kind of evaluated it and it felt a lot better. But then the next day it was a lot worse again. Pretty much the same yesterday.” The 6-foot-4 221-pound Ericsson plays on their top pairing as well as the penalty kill. His partner Niklas Kronwall will return Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators at Joe Louis Arena after missing two games with a mild concussion.
