Detroit Red Wings: Who should go for next season

Last week I looked at the top 5 players who should stay with the Detroit Red Wings for next season. Now I’m examining at the other end of the spectrum and have picked out the top 5 players that the Red Wings need to move on without. Who are the guys that underperformed and/or are overpaid? That was my basic principle in deciding which Red Wings should be packing their bags and...

Regner: Next season could be finale for Red Wings coach Babcock

Mike Babcock will coach the Detroit Red Wings through the end of next season. That's a certainty. But beyond next year, it's really up to Babcock. When the Wings gathered to take their team picture and clean out their lockers a little over a week ago, Babcock made his intentions perfectly clear. For now, he'll continue to coach in Detroit in some capacity because his...

Red Wings at the Worlds: Tatar’s Slovaks lose to Kindl’s Czechs; DeKeyser solid in U.S. debut

The Red Wings' players taking part in the World Championships experienced thoroughly mixed results on Friday. Tomas Tatar had an assist, a shot and played 17:21 in Slovakia's 3-2 OT loss to Jakub Kindl and the Czech Republic. Tatar looked superb in all situations, including the penalty-kill, but the Slovaks fell victim to poor goaltending as Jaromir Jagr tied the game with...

Red Wings overnight report: the ‘most unique’ World Championships; on Renney and Babcock; Sproul too

Red Wings prospect Tyler Bertuzzi’s re-cast himself as a scorer, but he’s still pissing people off

While Anthony Mantha's been scoring oodles of goals and catching Mike Babcock's eye as the Val-d'Or Foreurs battle the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the QMJHL's championship series, a slightly less-heralded Wings prospect's racked up a point per game as his team's closed in on a Memorial Cup berth. The Guelph Storm can wrap up the Ontario Hockey League's Robertson...

St. James: Red Wings allow other teams to court assistant coaches Renney, Peters

According to the Free Press's Helene St. James, TSN's Darren Dreger's Tweet suggesting that Tom Renney is in fact a hot coaching commodity may be true, and instead of the, "Babcock must want to make a change by leaving Detroit" line holding water, perhaps Jeff Blashill might rejoin Babcock to add a "new voice" instead. Why? Well, here's St. James...
