Found February 12, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
The Detroit Red Wings took Monday off to rest up as the team had played four games in six nights and a pair of weekend games, including Sunday's 3-2 win over Los Angeles, but the Kings made the Wings' lives a little more difficult on Monday night. When the Wings return to practice today, they'll know that the St. Louis Blues will be coming into town in an awful mood thanks to a 4-1 loss to Los Angeles that left the Blues winless in February and possessing an 0-3-and-1 record on a four-game home stand. The Blues were all but predictably speaking in tongues and speaking of conspiracy theories regarding the dangers of individualism and "cookie-giving" after the game. Given that the Wings have authored two of the Blues' February losses (a 5-3 win at the Joe on February 1st and a 5-1 win in St. Louis on February 7th) and will be meeting St. Louis for the fourth time this season on Wednesday evening (7:30 PM, and it's an NBC Sports Network-only, "Riv...

The Wings waive goaltender Joey MacDonald in hopes of placing him in Grand Rapids

According to Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News, the Red Wings have placed goaltender Joey MacDonald on waivers in hopes of sending him to Grand Rapids of the AHL. The 33-year-old MacDonald has been battling back issues since March of last year when he suffered a bulging disc and has since become more expendable with the addition of Jonas Gustavsson in the offseason and the emergence...

The Detroit Red Wings made it interesting Sunday afternoon.  The took a 2-0 lead late in the first period before allowing the Kings to score in the last minute of the first.  The 2-1 lead held up for all of the second period and 19:07 of game time in the third period before Alec Martinez tied it up for Los Angeles. Enter Jonathan Ericsson.  The Wings defenseman buried a shot with...

Jonathan Ericsson Says He Was Thanked After Scoring Game-Winner by Linesman Who ‘Had to Pee’

The Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings played one of the most exciting games of the young NHL season Sunday, and it left some hockey fans wishing the game would go to overtime. At least one person on the ice was just fine with the Red Wings winning the game on a Jonathan Ericsson goal with just 4.5 seconds left to play in Detroit. That would be one of the linesmen, who was hoping...

Kings vs Red Wings Recap: 2.10.2013

Red Wings dug deep today and pulled out a 3-2 win against the defending champs. With the kind of the pressure the Kings were putting on I thought it was just a matter of time before they tied the game and it was. I sure didn’t expect what happened next, though. Good play by all involved, especially Big Rig who got the winner with less than 5 seconds remaining. More after the...

Review: The Wings at the quarter point of the season

First let’s get this out of the way. The Detroit Red Wings just played 3 games in 4 days with 2 of those games inside a 24 hour period. Coming out of the other end of things the Wings won all 3 games against St. Louis, Edmonton and LA scoring 10 goals, allowing just 4 against and has put Hockeytown at ease for the moment. So here we are, 12 games played and a 7-4-1 record, currently...

Howard lifts Wings over Kings, 3-2

DETROIT -- For all those people who thought that young goaltender Petr Mrazek's time was now, Jimmy Howard proved Sunday that his time is far from over. The Red Wings were a tired team, playing its third game in four days. After taking a 2-1 lead over the Kings in the first period on Pavel Datsyuk's power-play goal and Damien Brunner's sixth goal in 12 games, the Wings...

GDT - Game 13: Red Wings (7-4-1) host Blues (6-5-1) 7:30

Six nights ago, the Wings went into STL on a damn ugly two-game skid, and the prospects for the Wings season were dire.  DET looked like world-beaters at STL, winning 5-1 and starting a season high three game win streak they skate into The Joe with tonight.   Things couldn't be worse for STL.  The Blues stormed out of the gate, 6-1 in January, but since that time are 0-4...

Red Wings Tuesday practice post in progress: no news isn’t good news regarding Helm, Bertuzzi

The Detroit Red Wings are back on the ice today, preparing for a grudge match and-a-half against an ornery St. Louis Blues team tomorrow evening (7:30 PM EST, NBCSN/97.1 FM, and, via RedWingsFeed, Yahoo Sports' Sean Leahy expertly explored the Blues' issues), and it sounds like the Wings will have to continue playing without a pair of players battlng back ailments: ...

Kings fall to Red Wings on last-second goal

DETROIT (AP) -- Jonathan Ericsson scored with 5 seconds left to lift the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday. The Kings failed to clear the puck, less than a minute after they tied the game, and Ericsson took advantage. His slap shot from above the right circle trickled through Jonathan Quick's pads. Los Angeles pulled Quick with a minute left...

Red Wings’ Niklas Kronwall partnering with autism charity

The Macomb Daily's Jerry Wolfe reports that Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall's going to donate tickets for Red Wings games to families affected by autism, starting this season, in association with the Autism Alliance of Michigan: Kronwall, 32, was turned onto AAoM after hearing Anthony Ianni speak about awareness and safety training for those with autism who face...

Red Wings-Blues game-day updates, take 2: Johan Franzen’s out for tonight

Normally, I'd try to keep the game-day updates regarding tonight's game between the Red Wings and St. Louis Blues (7:30 PM EST, NBCSN/TSN/97.1 FM) in one thread, but surprising and unpleasant injury news regarding a player whose size and strength the Wings rather desperately needed to employ against St. Louis merits its own entry. According to the Macomb Daily's Chuck...

How many NHL GMs does it take to work a TV? Answer: More than two

During their Saturday afternoon game against the Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers General Manager Steve Tambellini had trouble working the television in the Executive Suite at Joe Louis Arena. It became such an issue that Tambellini called over Red Wings GM Ken Holland to help him get the television on the right channel.  Holland apparently couldn’t get it to work either as he...

Looking Ahead to 2013-14

I know it's early, but its always fun to speculate. What will the Red Wings look like in 13-14? There are some questions that need to be answered, mainly how can they upgrade on defense, and can they keep both Filppula and Brunner? Who's out, and who's in? Take the jump for more speculation. Looking at CapGeek we can see that Kenny will have to make a...
