DETROIT (AP) -- Gustav Nyquist and Drew Miller scored 31 seconds apart midway through the second period and Pavel Datsyuk restored a two-goal lead in the third to help the Detroit Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 Monday night to take a 2-1 lead in the second round series.
Patrick Kane scored 4:35 into the third period to pull Chicago within one. The Blackhawks celebrated as if they tied the game about a minute later, but Andrew Shaw's goal was waved off because he was in the crease.
Datsyuk's goal 6:46 into the final period gave the Red Wings a 3-1 lead.
The seventh-seeded Red Wings have a shot to put the top-seeded Blackhawks on the brink of elimination Thursday night in Game 4.
Detroit's Jimmy Howard made 39 saves and Corey Crawford stopped 27 shots.
Chicago has lost consecutive games for the first time in nearly two months.

BEST OF MAXIM
Aside from Gustav Nyquist’s highlight reel goal Monday night, he was the recipient of an unfortunate shot prior to Game 3.
During pre-game warmups in the locker room the Red Wings regularly like to dribble around a soccer ball. Here we see Nyquist doing just that along with what looks to be fellow teammate Damien Brunner… Only instead of dribbling the ball back Nyquist Brunner...
Ray Sheppard was as slow as Larry Murphy and had hands of stone in terms of puckhandling, but he scored 50 goals for the Wings the year before they flipped him to San Jose for Igor Larionov, and he did so by skating in on goalies and simply waiting for them to take themselves out of the play. Gustav Nyquist made a Ray Sheppard-like deke on Corey Crawford tonight, but he only did...
We’ve got two Blackhawks down at the Joe…
As the Red Wing youngsters continue to gain experience throughout the playoffs, Gustav Nyquist turned Brent Seabrook and Corey Crawford inside out to put Detroit ahead 1-0 in the second period.

It’s common for hockey players to use a soccer ball off the ice to warm up before games. It’s a good way to get your legs going and have some fun with your teammates and work on communicating. Unfortunately for Gustav Nyquist, his teammate Damien Brunner never told him he was going to be throwing the ball directly at his junk. The routine must have worked though because...

Video leaking out of the Red Wings ghastly new playoff pre-game ritual: Sacrificing a Goose.
That's our lovable Swiss Sniper gone straight K-31 (Karabiner...7.5x55, a real beauty) on a fellow rookie and Game 3 hero, Gustav Nyquist. If this turns out to be the winning formula, Nyquist may retire at the end of the year.

The one major flaw with TSN's absolutely spectacular online offerings involves the fact that they are not embeddable on other websites. As such, they're usually relegated to "hey, look at this" status until YouTubers translate them to watchable formats (see: Kronwalled), but this one merits mentioning right now:
TSN's compiled a top ten list of Pavel Datsyuk...
After a controversial goalie interference call waved off the Chicago Blackhawks tying goal, Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk came back a few moments later and ripped this beauty of a shot past Corey Crawford. The goal was absolutely amazing and nearly identical to his goal in game 4 against the Anaheim Ducks. Needless to say it seems to be Datsyuk’s go-to shot and plenty...
DETROIT -- In the playoffs, you have to keep your shifts short -- unless you can't.
The Detroit Red Wings found that out the hard way early in the second period of Monday night's 3-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
Defenseman Brendan Smith took a holding penalty, so the Wings' penalty killers headed out -- and seemingly never came back off the ice.
Given the Blackhawks’ star power led by Marian Hossa, don’t expect them to go away quietly despite some early series adversity against Pavel Datsyuk’s Red Wings. (Julie Rubes, Flickr)
With back to back, dominating performances on the ice, the Detroit Red Wings have poked a few sizable holes in the Chicago Blackhawks’ supposed playoff invincibility cloak, nothing more nothing...
