Riley Sheahan is a young guy who is a professional hockey player, and because of that, he’s going to be prone to mistakes, both on and off the ice. His biggest transgression in his young career has come away from the rink. MLive.com has the details of the the Red Wings prospect’s drunken driving arrest in late October, and there are some eye-opening revelations. According to the report, Sheahan was arrested with a blood-alcohol content of .30 which is nearly four times the legal limit. In fact, Sheahan’s BAC was almost double what would be considered “super-drunk.” Drunk driving — especially at that mind-boggling level of intoxication — is certainly no laughing matter. However, Sheahan’s wardrobe at the time of the rest may provide a snicker or two. According to the report, Sheahan was wearing a purple Teletubby costume on the night of his arrest. He was arrested on Oct. 29, so it might be safe to assume that Sheahan was wearing the costume to or from some sort of Halloween celebration. Sheahan’s arrest came in Grand Rapids, Mich. The 2010 first-round pick is only 20, making him too young to drink in this country. However, that’s where things get even worse for the Detroit prospect. He admitted that he had been using teammate Brendan Smith‘s ID that night, which the arresting officer found on the dashboard of Sheahan’s vehicle when he has pulled over after driving the wrong way on a road in Grand Rapids. According to MLive.com, Sheahan could be in deep trouble. He pleaded not guilty, but since he qualified as “super drunk,” which means he had a BAC of 0.17 or higher, he could face up to 180 days in jail. He could also face deportation, as he is a Canadian citizen. Sheahan is currently playing with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. He was drafted 21st overall in the 2010 NHL entry draft and made his professional debut in 2011-12 after spending three years at Notre Dame.
