The Rangers on Monday fired coach Tom Renney after a stretch in which the team lost 10 of 12 games to put its playoff position in peril.

His replacement was not announced, but could be former Devils coach Jim Schoenfeld, who is in the team's front office.

  • If anybody was in attendance or watching the Harry Howell and Andy Bathgate banner ceremony on television, you may have noticed that Madison Square Garden was 80 percent full (at best) and just about everybody was sitting down seemingly falling asleep...http://fanzak.com/fzrants/Ranger_Organization
  • John Tortorella will be the new coach.

There is NO WAY they plug an old Devils coach into that role. There is way too much hatred among those 2 teams.
  • ouch
  • Yeah it's Torts. Not a bad move. But Torts is just like Hitchcock, he's great at first, then he wears on players and his act gets old. We'll see how he does with alll the babies on the Rangers like Gomez.
  • I can see Schoenfeld being tapped as an interim. He may be an old Devils coach but he DOES work for the Rangers now and he has the experience. Face it, virtually every coach in the NHL is someone's OLD coach. How about Ted Nolan??
