Found June 30, 2013 on NY Rangers Blog:
The decision not to buyout Brad Richards has been made, so there's really no sense in getting worked up about it anymore. We all know the huge risk Glen Sather took and we just have to pray the Rangers alternate captain can bounce back while staying healthy. And it looks like he's already focusing on next season as Pierre LeBrun at ESPN.com reports that Richards has been working out with Martin St. Louis in Connecticut lately. LeBrun notes that after speaking with Richards, he sounded like a man hell bent on proving to people he’s still an elite player. ...this is exactly the report I want to be hearing about Richards. Never underestimate the importance of pride. His has been bruised and he'll be looking to nurse it back to health this season. ...and if he can't turn it around, as we discussed in the comments section yesterday, I think the Rangers stick him in the press box for the remainder of the season as to not risk injury and ineligibility for th...

Rangers send Newbury to Philly for Danny Syvret

In a minor trade, the Rangers have sent forward Kris Newbury to Philadelphia for left-handed defenseman Danny Syrvet. Syvret, who was a teammate of Dan Girardi’s with London in the OHL, is essentially the defensive version of Newbury. Both players are solid at the AHL level, but neither can gain solid footing in the NHL. They are your quintessential AAAA players. Newbury was never...

Rangers will not be buying out Brad Richards

The Rangers have announced that they will not be buying out center Brad Richards this summer. The Rangers have one additional compliance buyout –they used their first on Wade Redden– but have until next offseason to use it. With a new coach in place, and without a pressing need to use the buyout this season, the Rangers have decided to see what they can get out of Richards this...

30 Teams In 30 Days-New York Rangers

The Rangers looked like they were going to make a serious run at contending for a Stanley Cup until they ran into Boston in the Eastern semis. Henrik Lundqvist led the team from between the pipes but a lack of offense and a poor power play kept the Rangers from going deeper into the playoffs. Let’s take a look back at the Broadway Blueshirts. Team Name:New York Rangers Record...

Rangers Looking For Defensive Depth & Future No. 1 Goaltender in Draft

With the Rangers trading away this year's first and second round picks in the Rick Nash & Ryane Clowe trades respectively, Gordie Clark and his crew are going to be twiddling their thumbs for a long time before finally using the first of the Blueshirts three third round picks during tomorrow's draft. But Clark still has a game plan going into the day (via Blueshirts...

Draft Summary Part One: Rangers Go All-Out On Forwards In Third Round

Last night was a different one for the New York Rangers. You have to go back to 2002 to find the last time the team did not hold a first round pick, but never, since the NHL Entry Draft came into existence, have the Rangers been without both a first and a second round pick. Nonetheless, Rangers Director of Player Personnel Gordie Clark has proven time and time again that NHL players...

Gordie Clark discussed what the Rangers will be looking to draft on the Rangers website, and noted that the Rangers are likely to make picks to fill an organizational need, as opposed to taking the best player available. Rangers Not Buying Out Richards

TSN is reporting that Rangers have decided against using their final compliance buyout on forward Brad Richards this season. ...while I'm not shocked by the decision, all I know is they better cover him in bubble wrap next year to prevent any injury that would make him ineligible for compliance buyout next offseason. Although, Richards has only played less than 72 games once...

2013 NHL Draft Live Blog

It’s shaping up to be a crazy day around the NHL. The Rangers don’t have first- or second-round picks thanks to trades for Rick Nash and Ryane Clowe, but they do hold three picks in the third round (#65, #75 and #80 overall). It’s quite possible that New York will attempt to package a couple of those picks to move up into the second round, but don’t hold your breath on the...

Falk, a left handed shot, had a line of 0-3-3 in 36 games this past season, with a -9 rating and 40 PIMs. Falk isn’t terrible on the metrics side of things, with a 2.0 RCorsi (-1.28 CorsiON), a -0.694 Corsi Rel QoC, and 47.9%...

Ulf Samuelsson joins the bench as assistant coach

This news broke yesterday, courtesy of Alex Nunn and his translation abilities (via this Swedish website), but we wanted to keep the focus on the draft. Former Ranger defenseman Ulf Samuelsson will be re-joining the Rangers as an assistant coach, working with the defense and penalty kill. Ulfie has spent the past two seasons coaching Modo in the SHL (renamed from the SEL). Tweet...
