Larry Brooks at the New York Post recently talked with Brad Richards about his plans for the lockout...

"I am staying here for the fall. Not thinking about anything until at least Christmas. Going to train, skate and be ready."

Brooks adds that John Tortorella has spoken with Richards and Ryan Callahan about the importance of maintaining structure and a high level of conditioning in the voluntary skates and scrimmages the club's players have continued to hold at the team's practice facility during the lockout.

Between 10 and 15 Rangers have participated in informal practices so far.

...you all know my feelings on the team sticking together during the lockout, so I love everything I'm hearing from Richards. But if the work stoppage continues to drag on, it only makes sense for the team to split up and look for opportunities overseas. As most have said on this blog, playing competitive hockey will make them much sharper if/when the season starts this year than if they were just participating in informal practices.

And the latest Ranger to start exploring other options is Henrik Lundqvist, who, according to SVTSport, is in talks with his former Swedish Elite League (SEL) team Frölunda.

There was a question as to whether the SEL was going to allow NHLers to play for them, but now Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy reports that an anti-trust ruling by the Swedish Competition Authority forces the Swedish Elite League to allow its teams to sign NHL players to short-term contracts or else face a 20 million krona ($3.095 million US) fine.
