The great majority of the Buffalo Sabres’ highlight goals this year, have come by way of Thomas Vanek.  Tuesday night, Vanek’s linemate Cody Hodgson got into the act after he pick-pocketed Eric Staal. Following the theft, Hodgson toe-dragged (hockey term) between Staal and fellow Hurricane Jiri Tlusty.  Then, a man-on-a-mission-Pavel-Datsyuk-style, Hodgson skated through Alexander Semin and Justin Faulk before depositing the puck behind ‘Canes goalie Justin Peters.  As if it wasn’t impressive enough, the Sabres were shorthanded at the time. Unfortunately for the Sabres, Hodgson’s sick maneuvers only counted for one tally on the scoreboard and they lost 4-3.

Cody Hodgson scores an incredible shorthanded goal

Buffalo Sabres forward Cody Hodgson humbly submitted his goal of the year candidate on Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes and boy was it a beauty.  Hodgson stole the puck from Hurricanes captain Eric Staal at center ice, then toe dragged around Jiri Tlusty, broke into the zone and then walked around Justin Faulk and buried it in the back of the net.  Oh, did I mention...

Patrick Kaleta is the symptom of a greater disease

The hockey world took to bashing Patrick Kaleta with a hint of glee after his reckless, dangerous hit on Brad Richards in the first tilt of 2013 between the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers. They said what you’d normally expect when a player of Kaleta’s reputation does anything dumb. Get him out of the game, he’s useless, etc. He’s become the new WORST PLAYER EVER...

Jhonas Enroth To Start Against New Jersey

(November 18, 2011 – Source: Rick Stewart/Getty Images North America) After 15 straight starts, Ryan Miller is finally getting a well-deserved rest from the net. Ron Rolston announced early today that backup goaltender Jhonas Enroth will indeed start tonight’s contest against the New Jersey Devils in Newark. It’s Enroth’s first start since he gave up three first period...

GARTH: Collapse

One of these days, the Sabres are going to play a 60 minute hockey game. They played a valiant first 53 minutes in Newark, then they took a seven minute nap. The roof began to fall in on Buffalo when Christian Ehrhoff took a stupid penalty and Adam Henrique scored the PPG to cut Buffalo's lead to 2-1. Their lack of urgency ended up costing them two huge points in the...

GARTH: Petered Out

So much for earning points in five straight games. It took just 91 seconds for the Hurricanes to light the lamp, when Tlusty had his way with Tyler Myers in front of Ryan Miller for his 11th goal of the season. It was all Carolina from that point on. The Canes dominated the puck in the first 10 minutes of the opening period limiting the Sabres to one shot on AHL Charlotte Checkers b...

Justin Peters robs Thomas Vanek with unbelievable stick save

Carolina Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward is out the rest of the NHL regular season, and so Dan Ellis and Justin Peters have been rotating in net.  Peters is 26-years-old and started the season in the AHL, but I think he is going to be the starting goalie after this save.  Buffalo Sabres forward Thomas Vanek has been on fire all year and is currently 4th in the league with 28 points...
