PLAYERS: Chad Ruhwedel
TEAMS: Buffalo Sabres
In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings, Buffalo Sabres defenseman Chad Ruhwedel has another reason to be thankful for jumping to the NHL. Ruhwedel ended his college career at UMass Lowell to sign with Buffalo on Saturday. Had that not happened, the 22-year-old figures he would have been with his friends watching the marathon not far from the finish line where two explosions killed three people and wounded more than 170 on Monday. His friends unhurt, Ruhwedel has turned his attention to those who were affected by the tragedy, while putting aside thoughts about his homecoming. Ruhwedel and the Sabres traveled to Boston on Tuesday to prepare to play the Bruins the following day. The game's scheduled to be the city's first professional sporting event since the marathon.

Projected 2014 Buffalo Sabres Roster: The Centers

The 2013 season is winding down, and the Buffalo Sabres will, likely, be on the outside of the playoffs looking in for the second straight season. It means that it’s time for the ever-fun predictions for next season. There is no denying that the team will look different next year, but just how different will it look? That’s what this is for. Starting with centers, we will go...

Buffalo Sabres John Scott videobombs interview with amazing dance skills (Video)

There is nothing that we love here at Outside the Boxscore more than a classic photobomb or videobomb done by an athlete. Last Sunday, Buffalo Sabres John Scott decided to intrude upon a postgame interview being done with teammate Chad Ruhwedel wearing only an NHL approved robe. Check out John's nice dance moves in the video below: (Courtesy of Sportsnet)

Lindy Ruff to coach Canada in world championship

Former Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff will be behind Canada's bench for the world hockey championship next month in Stockholm and Helsinki. Ruff was fired by the Sabres on Feb. 20, ending a 16-year run as the team's coach. He coached Canada to a silver medal in the 2009 world championship and was an associate coach under Mike Babcock on Canada's 2010 gold-medal Olympic...

Bruins fans take over singing national anthem

“We are Boston. We are strong.” That was the message that the city projected on Wednesday night during an emotional pregame ceremony before the Bruins-Sabres game, the first game played in Boston since the tragic events of Monday’s Boston Marathon. After a video montage of scenes from the marathon played on the arena’s Jumbotron, anthem singer Rene Rancourt got part of the...

To show their appreciation, respect and love to the fans in attendance, the Sabres and Bruins gathered...

Sabres Need to Regain Their Identity

What happened to this Buffalo franchise over the course of the last decade?  During the honeymoon era of the Darcy Regier and Lindy Ruff era the Sabres were a ragged bunch, who were just as satisfied blocking shots and finishing checks as they would have been scoring goals.  Those late 90’s teams were relentless, grinding out all 60 minutes of each contest as if it was their...

Kevin Freiheit: Grigo-ridiculous

Mikhail Grigorenko staying with the Sabres? Really? I'm not pleased with the move of Grigorenko remaining with the Sabres for the season. It makes no sense to me to bring him back and have him play on the 3rd or 4th line. The only thing I want to see is him on the 1st or 2nd line, but still I don't like the move. He is unlikely to play Wednesday in Boston, which means...
