Scott Nichol has retired from playing professional hockey and will accept a job with the Nashville Predators as the team's director of player development, as seen in a report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Nichol, 38, was set to become an unrestricted free agent for the Blues and it seemed highly unlikely the team would give him a new deal due to the emergence of Adam Cracknell, Chris Porter and Ryan Reaves on the fourth line.  Nichol ends his playing days after 662 NHL games. Over that time he scored 56 goals and 71 assists for a total of 127 points. Nichol will be remembered for his physical style of play which always made his small stature (5'9", 178) look like a typo. He was also one of the best in the game at faceoffs. In 2012-13 Nichol won 60.6% of his draws. In 2011-12 he won 57.6%. Nichol's time with the Blues was rather brief.
