Uniondale, NY -- It was one of the Islanders biggest games of the year and they did not show. 15,818 packed Nassau Coliseum and watched as the Ottawa Senators drove Kevin Poulin from his net just 1:35 into the game and eventually defeated the Islanders 6-0.
“We had a couple of bad starts this season, but we definitely topped it today,” Islanders captain Mark Streit said after the game.
A Bad star it was, Erik Karlsson scored 1:08 into the game nearly parallel to the net. Karlsson shot the puck on the red line and it some how found its’ way into the net. Less than a minute later, Jason Spezza scored from the right hand face-off circle to make it 2-0.
In a move to try and jump-start his team Islanders head coach Jack Capuano switched goaltenders and had Al Montoya take over in net.
